I was surprised when the Red Bulls let him go. Maurer has a lot of promise as a GK. Happy to see he has landed in what seems like a good spot.
Nice find. He's an '88 from Georgia who played at South Carolina and has some USL experience. The Red Bulls drafted him in 2011.

Yes: I thought it was Alec Horwath who was on trial with UdeC (another former US youth goalie and NYRB goalie, so it was speculation/a guesstimate on my part). Good for Maurer: he'll be competing with Paraguayan Cristian Britez for the starting role and hopefully he'll do as well as Jonny Walker did when he played for Huachipato and later on U. Catolica and Colo Colo.
