is there a reason why players who are playing for other national teams are listed as "yanks abroad"? you know, like nevin subotic? give it a rest already, we missed out on him. bad luck but seriously get over it. shouldn't this list strictly be players who are actually eligible for a US national team? i just think it would be far more helpful to stop including players we know for a fact are not eligible to play for us.
No, this is the Yanks Abroad forum, not the Eligible for the US Team Abroad forum. Subotic is still a US citizen and therefore is a Yank Abroad. The definition for this forum is that the player has to be a US citizen, they don't have to be eligible for the US team to be talked about here.
Thanks for the information but I don't think people like reading about some of the YANKS playing for good european clubs and then finding out that they are not even eligible to play for the US. I think most people would like to read about the players that are playing for the USMNT team now and the ones that might play for us someday.
This has been addressed repeatedly and will not change. Now it is simply a dead issue, discussion of which will bring down the wrath of the gods (or the YA moderators).
uh. ok. whatever. i guess it is nice, in a self torturous kind of way, to know that the center of our defence "could" be Subotic/Hangeland or that our strike partnership could be Rossi/Isebvic but maybe the list of "eligible" and "not eligible" for the USMNTs could be separated out? Former Herd soccer player signs with professional team February 05, 2010 @ 12:00 AM The Herald-Dispatch HUNTINGTON -- Former Marshall University men's soccer midfielder John Daniele signed a pro contract with UC La Estrella of Los Santos Maimona, Spain, and will be on the team roster for the duration of the 2009-10 season. UC La Estrella is a part of the Tercera Division, the fourth level of the Spanish League system. The league has 361 teams which are divided into 18 regional groups. "John was one of the hardest working kids we had," Marshall coach Bob Gray said. "One of his dreams was to play professional soccer overseas. He has bounced around Europe independently, but his determination was why he signed this contract and is now able to do what he loves." Daniele was a 2007 graduate of Marshall with a bachelor's degree in Spanish. He was an All-Conference USA third team selection and a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
That's interesting. He was listed as being with RRFCM in Belgium earlier this season and now it seems that both he and Omar Persad are making this jump (to the same Spanish club from the same Belgian club).
