Please give it your best estimate. Also, if you know how to write it in English, please do. A lot of posters like myself can't read Spanish. If not, then type in Spanish then. Revenue per team 1. The average club in Brazil make $45.34 mil a year? I have my doubt. Need a link to the above number before I believe it. I find it is hard to believe that the average club in Brazil First Division make $45.34 million a year. There is no way that the average club in Brazil First Division make more money than Mexico First Division. Mexico: much higher attendance Mexico: much bigger TV deal (especially the TV deal with Univision in the USA) Mexico: a lot of fans in the USA (at least 10 millions) that buy a lot of football stuff Brazil has the advantage in transfer fee revenue, but spread it around 20 clubs, it is a small number. For example, $100 mil in net transfer fee revenue a year = $5 mil per club. Also, in the thread about average salary in Brazil, the average player only make around $100-150k a year. How can that be when the revenue is $45 mil. If $25 mil is used for salary, then the average salary is $1 mil ($25 mil / 25 players). ----------------------------------- Anyway, please give it your best estimate of the average revenue for leagues in Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Chile etc....
The 45.34 mil dollars is about the total produced in tickets sales for all the clubs during the brazilian championship. The division of these 45.34 mil is on this table: R$ 9.029.116,00 Flamengo/RJ (19) R$ 6.416.131,00 São Paulo/SP (18) R$ 5.860.104,00 Grêmio/RS (19) R$ 5.247.162,50 Palmeiras/SP (19) R$ 4.828.566,00 Sport/PE (19) R$ 4.703.322,00 Botafogo/RJ (18) R$ 4.693.344,00 Internacional/RS (19) R$ 4.629.374,00 Fluminense/RJ (19) R$ 4.448.101,00 Corinthians/SP (19) R$ 4.327.202,50 Atlético/PR (19) R$ 4.230.293,00 Cruzeiro/MG (19) R$ 4.097.411,00 Atlético/MG (19) R$ 3.052.655,00 Vasco/RJ (19) R$ 2.975.564,00 Náutico/PE (19) R$ 2.771.443,00 Goiás/GO (19) R$ 2.619.455,00 América/RN (18) R$ 1.903.687,00 Santos/SP (19) R$ 1.615.936,00 Paraná/PR (19) R$ 1.312.006,50 Figueirense/SC (19) R$ 1.279.975,00 Juventude/RS (19) 1,00 dollar = 1,748 reais Last year (2006) São Paulo was the richest club in Brasil with a 65 mil dollars in revenues. This year should be the first again with a 88.62 mil dollars (155 mil reais). In second should be Corinthians with 74.37 mil (130 mil reais). However the official numbers will be available only in march or april. In both clubs the great revenue was in transfer fee. São Paulo sold two players (Ilsinho for 10 mil euros and Breno for 13 mil euros) and others players like Thiago Ribeiro, Lenilson, Josué and Edcarlos (each one of these bringing 1,5 mil dollars - average). Corinthians sold Carlos Alberto, William and others too. For the next year São Paulo increases his profits from Reebok from 7 millions reais/year to 15 millions reais/year. Players like Hernanes, Dagoberto, Alex Silva, Miranda, Richarlyson can produce some revenue too. For 2009 the TV broadcasting deal will be changing with the fight between the TV channels Globo and Record for the rights. Today the contract of broadcasting (with Globo) is of 300 millions reais (US$ 171 millions) and Record for 2009 already announce his intention to pay in a limit of 1 billion reais (US$ 572 millions) for the rights. If this become true the clubs will get a lot of money.
I suppose you mean revenue overall, not revenue just from ticket sales, TV contracts, sponsorship, etc. Let's see if i can go somewhere with that in Argentina. Let's see here's the amount of tickets sold by club in the first half of this current season. 1- Independiente 236,367 2- Boca Juniors 219,327 3- River Plate 205,389 4- San Lorenzo 172,736 5- Racing Club 147,797 6- Lanús 142,072 7- Rosario Central 138,903 8- Estudiantes LP 136,464 9- Tigre 132,065 10- Vélez Sarsfield 121,840 11- Huracán 115,827 12- Newell's Old Boys 114,327 13- Gimnasia LP 106,508 14- Olimpo BB 86,095 15- Argentinos Juniors 84,865 16- Banfield 83,283 17- San Martín SJ 83,189 18- Gimnasia J. 67,431 19- Colón Sta. Fe 65,920 20- Arsenal FC 57,098 So we have the total of 2,517,503; unfortunately AFA doesn't tell us how much that means in money so i'll try to do something, the average between the cheapest tickets and the most expensive ones may give us an average price of 15 USD, of course this is relative because the amount of cheaper and expensive tickets varies depending the stadium. So we have the total of 37,762,545 USD and this only the first half of the season supposing in the 2nd half it's the same numbers we have a total of 75,525,090USD so we get that it's an average of ~3.8mil USD per team. Now TV revenue another complicated issue, although the numbers of this one are known there's a contract of 150mil USD per year, so the average for each club would be 7.5mil per club(although it's known that Boca and River share 80mil of the total, the 3rd, Independiente gets 8mil, slightly above the average, San Lorenzo gets 6mil, Racing gets 5mil, Vélez and Arsenal(what a casuality) get 3mil, the rest come behind). So the number we are looking for we have 75mil~ from ticket sales and 150mil from TV so a total revenue of 225mil~ USD, and the average of 11mil~ USD per club. Of course this estimated number doesn't include stuff like sponsorship and the TV revenue is from Argentina alone not from other parts of the continent and some few places of Europe, those numbers are totally unknown and probably irrelevant. Sponsorship which obviously varie, since the teams have different sponsors, and they don't have the same amount of sponsors, and the number doesn't include revenue from season ticket or club membership's quotas. On another note the ticket sales numbers wouldn't do to calculate average attendance since those numbers don't include season ticket holders, or club members who get free access to the main stand, this also causes that the majority of the clubs almost don't sell tickets for away matches since they are taken by the club members. Also for some clubs like Boca and River ticket holders and club members resemble over the half of the attendance, while in others like Independiente, San Lorenzo and Racing and maybe others like Rosario Central may resemble the half of the attendance.
So what is the average revenue per club? Let's assume $171 mil in TV revenue (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $45 mil in ticket revenue (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $50 mil in sponsorship (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $20 mil in merchandise (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $80 mil in net transfer revenue (for 20 clubs) Total: $366 mil for 20 clubs Average: $18.3 mil per club for Brazil. How is my educated guess above?
Assuming that you're correct that the average ticket is $15. 5,000,000 paid tickets = $75 mil (for all 20 clubs). Ticket revenue: $75 mil (all 20 clubs) TV revenue: $150 mil (all 20 clubs) Sponsorship: $50 mil (all 20 clubs) Merchandise: $20 mil (all 20 clubs) Net transfer revenue: $50 mil (all 20 clubs) Total: $345 mil Average: $17.25 mil for Argentina
Wrong... $50 mil in sponsorship.... I have informations clubs from Serie A and this information is incomplete. Wich means that the number is underrated. But... But this number as I said is underrated. The true one is probably much more. Transfer fee.... wrong too... Only the players below brings 146 mil... (numbers in mil) Alexandre Pato, 20,00 US$ Carlos Alberto, EUR 7,80 Carlos Eduardo, EUR 7,00 Ceará, EUR 3,00 Edcarlos, EUR 1,60 Ilsinho, EUR 9,50 Josué, US$ 1,70 Leandro Lima, EUR 1,50 Lucas, GBP 5,00 Marcelo Mattos, EUR 3,00 Michael, US$ 4,00 Renato, US$ 4,00 Welliton, EUR 6,00 William, US$ 19,00 Alecsandro, US$ 4,00 Caio, EUR 4,00 Breno, EUR 13,00 You can add more 10 mil US$ from the minor transfers. Use 156 mil US$ as tranfers fee instead 80 mil. These two changes will bring a more accurate number.
However the clubs have other sources of revenues like friendlies around the world, premiation in championships, contribution of associated fans, injection of money from companies like MSI or Traffic or others...
Other aspect is the currency. In 2006 the relation between the US dollar and the Real was 1 = 2,1 2007 is like 1 = 1,75. Only this can make the brazilian average revenues increase from 24.6 to almost 30 mil.
Well looks like a good guess, although i am unsure if the sponsorship is that high, i'd say that the average being a between 15 and 18 mil must be accurate.
BRAZIL: (educated guess) Let's assume $171 mil in TV revenue (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $45 mil in ticket revenue (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $50 mil in sponsorship (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $20 mil in merchandise (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $140 mil in net transfer revenue (for 20 clubs) Total: $426 mil for 20 clubs Average: $21.3 mil per club for Brazil. ARGENTINA (educated guess) Ticket revenue: $75 mil (all 20 clubs) TV revenue: $150 mil (all 20 clubs) Sponsorship: $50 mil (all 20 clubs) Merchandise: $20 mil (all 20 clubs) Net transfer revenue: $90 mil (all 20 clubs) Total: $385 mil Average: $19.25 mil for Argentina Revenue per team 1. No.... just to 2007. And the real valor is probably bigger because there are others minors transfers... dozens of 0,5 mil transfers...
My guess for Brazil... Let's assume $171 mil in TV revenue (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $45 mil in ticket revenue (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $115 mil in sponsorship (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $20 mil in merchandise (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $160 mil in net transfer revenue (for 20 clubs) Let's assume $50 mil in others profits like associated fans, money from companies like MSI, Traffic and others. Average... 28.05 mil US$

Brasil makes 24 mill per team a year? it sure don't seem like it or maybe because the owners and directivos steal all the money.
The preliminary number is of 187 millions reais in revenues for 2007. Wich means 105.65 millions dollars or 72.81 millions euros. The biggest revenue in brazilian football.

I dont understand why you exclude the revenues that are not from football. If we do that Barcelona and other european clubs will suffer a decrease in their revenues because part of their profits is not from football but from the club social area like associated members and etc.
Recently tha "Casual Auditores Independentes" released the 20 biggest revenues for the year of 2007 in Brazil. Dude, Chivas got 100 million dollars/4 years contract from Televisa, that's 25 million/year just from national tv rights, not counting abroad, mainly U.S. I'm pretty sure other popular clubs like America, Cruz Azul, Monterrey, Tigres, etc get similar contracts. Of Course, that is in addition to sponsorship deals, attendance and all the other miscellaneous income. Even though most of this clubs are owned by large corporations who just pump money into the club, and do not really release numbers, 35 million/team seems pretty low for the Mexican league.
