Well, the year before we ended in 2nd place so it was not that a surprise at the time.

In 1968-69 our attack was Riva-Boninsegna (+ english Hitchens)
    http://www.cagliaristory.it/1968/index1983.html

That team wasn't only Riva... Albertosi, Domenghini, Cera, Nenè etc.

In 1970-71 Cagliari lead serie a till early in the season Riva got severely injured (a broken leg).

Inter won the scudetto but with Riva still playing Inter - Cagliari 1-3.

5 of the scudetto winners were part of NT in Mexico 70 (Albertosi, Niccolai, Cera, Domenghini, Riva).
As you surely know Italy lost the final against Brasil.

so how is Cagliari going to treat the Coppa?... I dont imagine we'll see the likes of esposito and zola?

its interesting, lazio faces cagliari in the coppa and then the next league match...probably 2 different sets of teams tho..

Yes, it's interesting. I'd prefer to win in the league match next sunday and give you the coppa italia though. :)

I already commented the match in Lazio's board. Yes the line-up had a lot of b players.

It was the first match for Honduras national Alvarez and I was positively impressed by his match.

    Cagliari-Lazio 2-1

    IEZZO
    ALVAREZ
    MALTAGLIATI
    LORIA
    AGOSTINI
    ABEIJON
    DELNEVO
    BRAMBILLA
    PERALTA (ZOLA approx. 70)
    LANGELLA
    BIANCHI

goals - Langella, Filippini, Zola (pen).

A good match, given the chances to score it could have been a draw.
The Lazio goal was mostly a gift from our defence though.
Langella's goal was fantastic, he started running from cagliari's midfield past 3 or 4 Lazio players and then Peruzzi was unable to deflect his powerful shot.

The penalty looked a bit generous.

It was good to see again Muzzi, we will always be thankful (or at least most of us).

I was told the PK was a gift, I'm curious to see highlights....and you can have Muzzi back in a hearbeat. He's nowhere near the player he was for Udinese and before....

No thanks, as much as we love Roberto Muzzi we have enough attackers. Zola, Suazo, Esposito, Langella and Bianchi... Bianchi is even humbly asking to go away in order to play more.

p.s. Being me the referee I wouldn't have awarded that penalty. ;)

    Sassari's coat of arms.

    Cagliari's coat of arms.

Both the cities have red and blue as main colors.

Cagliari calcio's crest has the red and blue colors and the traditional sardinian flag "i quattro mori" (the four moors).

Sassari Torres' crest is that of the town.

    Very similar yes.

Both made by A-line and same sponsor (Terra Sarda - Regione Sardegna - Assessorato Cultura Sport e Spettacolo).

Entertaining match, both the teams played to win. In the first half Lazio had more chances, in the second half it was Cagliari.
Overall I'd say a fair win. The ghosts of late Inter 3-3 appeared in the last minutes... :)

The three attackers played well (and scored), Zola started a bit slow but emerged in the second half.

Lazio did also pay their uefa cup efforts apparently.

    wow. :)

Very convincing performance against a good team. Zola played his best match of the season so far. One of his great free kicks gave us the lead. Langella keeps surprising with magics. Now if he goes on like this... a call from Lippi is a given.

It was a very entertaining match with both the teams playing to score and win, at least in the first half (3-0).
In the second half Cagliari played mostly to keep the result while Chievo never gave in.

18 yrs old Pisano played again a good match.

    :)

Cagliari nearer to his first and most important goal, avoid relegation.

If what it has been said is true (ie 40 pts and you are almost sure you won't get relegated) it's -18 to the arrival.
    Past that, dreams are welcome.

Wonderful achievements so far. And Suazo hasn't played yet.
When he is on he is just like Langella now, only even quicker.

Although agnostic and a liberal leftie, being nonetheless italian, this man (me) is currently touching... no not the wood... what italians touch in these occasions.

p.s. 'azzo, you almost draw... Great goal by Pandev.
