We're back for another season. So to kick things off ... * Just to clarify, the recent Setanta developments in the UK do not have any affect on Setanta showing matches in the U.S. * I think I actually got the time change stuff right for once! UK falls back an hour Oct. 25, U.S. not until Nov. 1. * Obviously, more games to be added. FSC now has the Champions League rights, so hopefully Arsenal's qualifying matches will be shown, too. ---------------------------------------- SCHEDULES ARE ALWAYS SUBJECT TO CHANGE All times Eastern (First-run showings in bold) (Matches from past seasons in italics) FSC Friday, July 10: Arsenal 1 vs. Liverpool 1, 21 Dec 2008, 3 p.m. Monday, July 13: Arsenal 2 at Aston Villa 2, 26 Dec 2008, 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 15: Arsenal 3 at Hull City 1, 17 Jan 2009, 1 p.m. Thursday, July 16: Arsenal 3 at Newcastle United 1, 21 March 2009, 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1: Arsenal 1 vs. Chelsea 4, 10 May 2009, 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6: Arsenal 1 vs. Chelsea 4, 10 May 2009, 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15: Arsenal at Everton, 12:15 p.m. LIVE Saturday, Aug. 29: Arsenal at Manchester United, 12:15 p.m. LIVE Saturday, Sept. 26: Arsenal at Fulham, 12:15 p.m. LIVE Sunday, Oct. 25: Arsenal at West Ham United, 10:15 a.m. LIVE Saturday, Nov. 7: Arsenal at Wolverhampton Wanderers, 12:15 p.m. LIVE Sunday, Nov. 29: Arsenal vs. Chelsea, 11 a.m. LIVE Setanta Thursday, July 9: Arsenal 0 at Roma 1 (CL R16 L2), 11 March 2009, 2:45 p.m. Friday, July 10: Arsenal 4 at Liverpool 4, 21 April 2009, 1 p.m. Friday, July 10: Arsenal 1 vs. Chelsea 2 (FA Cup semifinal), 18 April 2009, 10 p.m. Sunday, July 12: Arsenal 1 vs. Chelsea 2 (FA Cup semifinal), 18 April 2009, 2 p.m. Monday, July 13: Arsenal 0 at Roma 1 (CL R16 L2), 11 March 2009, 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 14: Arsenal 1 at Villarreal 1 (CL QF L1), 7 April 2009, 2:45 p.m. Thursday, July 16: Arsenal 4 at Liverpool 4, 21 April 2009, 1 p.m. Friday, July 17: Arsenal 3 vs. Villarreal 0 (CL QF L2), 15 April 2009, 2:45 p.m. Sunday, July 19: Arsenal 4 vs. Tottenham Hotspur 4, 29 Oct 2008, 3 p.m. Monday, July 20: Arsenal 0 at Manchester United 0, 16 May 2009, 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 21: Arsenal 0 at Manchester United 1 (CL SF L1), 29 April 2009, 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4: Arsenal vs. Blackburn Rovers, 8:30 a.m. LIVE Saturday, Oct. 31: Arsenal vs. Tottenham Hotspur, 6:45 a.m. LIVE GolTV Friday, July 10: Arsenal 1 vs. Real Madrid 0 (Emirates Cup), 3 Aug 2008, 4 p.m.
footie has the shortest offseason in all of sports. i cant believe we are only a month away from it all counting again... love the updates epi.. respect.
Cheers for the updates. You added an hour between us and the UK instead of taking one away for that week, which would mean West Ham at 12:15pm ET and Sp*rs at 8:45am ET .
Okay, I read where ESPN is showing premier league games this year but the way I read it, it seems the article only talks about the games it will show in the UK. Does anyone know if us here in the states are gonna get some ESPN premier league games?
no games on ESPN in the states. ESPN won the rights in England (and maybe all of Europe?), so all these schedules that have been released in the past day or two are for the british viewing audience. Fox Soccer Channel and Setanta will be airing the EPL games this season. Those schedules will be released in the coming weeks, although a few games have been announced (see first post). Also, Fox Soccer Channel will have rights to the Champions League this year, and supposedly, by the end of the year will be in HD (not sure if it will apply to premier league games as well). ESPN did some deal with goltv where they will be showing some la liga games this year (on espn2 i think, or possibly espn classic), and i think a majority, if not all la liga games will be on espn deportes. wouldn't be surprised to see ESPN try and make a bid for the international rights (u.s.) for next season, which go up for bidding later this year.
Thanks. Yeah, I knew that ESPN was going to show some La Liga games this coming year. I am really surprised that FSC is going to show the Champions League games and not ESPN. ESPN seems to be making a real push toward soccer and they're not showing something they always have. But no more Tommy Smyth drooling over Man U is fine with me.
Just found out that GolTV will again show the Emirates Cup. Assuming those matches will be live. ------------------------------------------------------ SCHEDULES ARE ALWAYS SUBJECT TO CHANGE All times Eastern (First-run showings in bold) (Matches from past seasons in italics) FSC Monday, July 13: Arsenal 2 at Aston Villa 2, 26 Dec 2008, 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 15: Arsenal 3 at Hull City 1, 17 Jan 2009, 1 p.m. Thursday, July 16: Arsenal 3 at Newcastle United 1, 21 March 2009, 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1: Arsenal 1 vs. Chelsea 4, 10 May 2009, 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6: Arsenal 1 vs. Chelsea 4, 10 May 2009, 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15: Arsenal at Everton, 12:15 p.m. LIVE Saturday, Aug. 29: Arsenal at Manchester United, 12:15 p.m. LIVE Saturday, Sept. 26: Arsenal at Fulham, 12:15 p.m. LIVE Sunday, Oct. 25: Arsenal at West Ham United, 12:15 p.m. LIVE Saturday, Nov. 7: Arsenal at Wolverhampton Wanderers, 12:15 p.m. LIVE Sunday, Nov. 29: Arsenal vs. Chelsea, 11 a.m. LIVE Setanta Sunday, July 12: Arsenal 1 vs. Chelsea 2 (FA Cup semifinal), 18 April 2009, 2 p.m. Monday, July 13: Arsenal 0 at Roma 1 (CL R16 L2), 11 March 2009, 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 14: Arsenal 1 at Villarreal 1 (CL QF L1), 7 April 2009, 2:45 p.m. Thursday, July 16: Arsenal 4 at Liverpool 4, 21 April 2009, 1 p.m. Friday, July 17: Arsenal 3 vs. Villarreal 0 (CL QF L2), 15 April 2009, 2:45 p.m. Sunday, July 19: Arsenal 4 vs. Tottenham Hotspur 4, 29 Oct 2008, 3 p.m. Monday, July 20: Arsenal 0 at Manchester United 0, 16 May 2009, 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 21: Arsenal 0 at Manchester United 1 (CL SF L1), 29 April 2009, 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4: Arsenal vs. Blackburn Rovers, 8:30 a.m. LIVE Saturday, Oct. 31: Arsenal vs. Tottenham Hotspur, 8:45 a.m. LIVE GolTV Saturday, Aug. 1: Arsenal vs. Atletico Madrid (Emirates Cup), 11:15 a.m. LIVE Sunday, Aug. 2: Arsenal vs. Rangers (Emirates Cup), 11:15 a.m. LIVE
I'm 48 hours after, but a Sunday celebration beginning with the Emirates Cup sounds a lot better than a hurried get together on a Tuesday night.
Indeed!!! That was fun last year! Wonder if there will be Red Bull fridges pitch-side again. Still hoping the Setanta crunch will somehow work in our favor.
So glad GolTV picked up the Emirates Cup again. I was worried that they wouldn't have coverage without Real Madrid involved. Can't wait for live Arsenal football on the boob tube!
Has anyone yet heard how FSC will be handling the CL? Will there be replays of every game? (Hopefully) Or are they only going to show the Madrid, Barca, Man U games live and everyone else is screwed?
We will have to wait and see how the drawing/tv pairing end up. If manutd is on a different day, and we have a group with other bigger names (Real/Inter/Juve), we may end up on FSC a lot. I think they will be somewhat fair in simply picking the biggest game of the day, and if that is not us, we may end up on FS Esp or on delay. Then again I heard stories saying that they plan on using all of the Fox Sports channels (FCS etc.) so they may end up broadcasting 3 games simultaneously with Setanta carrying one.
The Champions League coverage in the USA will be as following (copied from a post from several months ago): FSN is "Fox Sports Net", which refers to Regional Sports channels owned by Fox. I have first hand confirmation that Regional Sports channels formerly owned by Fox will also be showing the matches, although every Regional Sports channel's programming is subject to pre-emption by, uh, regional programming. So, to be sure to see every Champions League match in true High Definition, you need to subscribe to Dish Network's "Multi-Sports" package, which is $5 per month, or DirecTV's equivalent package. I have first hand confirmation that the Champions League matches will not be subject to blackout, so that should work. The first match is the one on August 18th at 2:45pm ET, so whether or not they show Arsenal is dependent on the results of August 7th's draw.
Thanks, kstuart. Lots of great info in there. Frankly, I'm glad I don't have to rely on Setanta for CL programming.
So, is the Setanta US channel going to be broadcasting the ESPN England feeds over to the U.S.? Can anyone else expand on the info about Setanta US not being affected by Setanta in Europe? Also, I was under the impression that DirecTV was the only way to get Setanta, but I just checked and it appears that AT&T Uverse allows you to get Setanta. Anyone here have AT&T? Any reviews? I'm moving and Uverse would save me a ton of money over DirecTV but I won't do it if I can't get all the games. Any guidance will be much appreciated.
Other than the CL switching to the Fox networks, there is no change for us next season. Domestic games will be on Setanta and FSC as usual.
The cheapest way to get Setanta is on Dish Network, which has it for $9.99 to those who have Dish Latino packages. Many of those whose primary TV interest is soccer, subscribe to Dish Latino Max, which is $53 per month and includes Fox Soccer Channel, as well as Fox Soccer Espanol (for some Champions League matches) and ESPN Deportes (3 La Liga matches per week), as well as the most popular English Language channels (CNN, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNNEWS, TNT, etc.) plus your local channels, and is elgible to get the HD package for $10, which gets you the available HD equivalents of SD channels in your package, plus HD channels that have no SD equivalent (FTV, HD-Net, HDNet-Movies, etc.). So, $73 gets you Dish Latino Max plus HD plus Setanta. New subscriber promotions are as usual for all providers, i.e. free hardware, discounts on HBO and Showtime, rebates, etc. PS All overseas channels can get their feeds from Trans World International, who exports the Premier League matches. The rights purchased by ESPN are broadcast rights within the UK. ESPN-UK is free to use any feed that they want. Setanta USA used to use the Setanta UK feed, because they wanted the money to stay within the family. FSC-HD will be using the Sky-HD feed in January for Premier League matches.
I cut and pasted someone else's post, but I heard it first hand from the head of Fox Soccer Channel when he announced it on the "Fox Football Fone-In" show on FSC this past spring.
Don't want to steal any thunder - but it looks like FSC has added the August 22, 2009 match versus Pompey to its line-up starting at 10 AM ET.
