Somehow El Nuevo Heraldo (CRC newspaper) managed to interview LD, who seems by far the most seeked guy by the Tico reporters: http://www.elnuevoherald.com/2013/09/04/1559108/donovan-queremos-hacer-historia.html Donovan: We Want To Make History in Costa Rica "Saprissa is the most difficult stadium where I've played," said Donovan, who scored the US goal when they fell 3-1 in June of 2009. "On top of that, they got a very good team." The return of Donovan to the US team has given a new attacking option to them, as Klinsmann himself said, and Donovan feels that he's going through a good moment. "I feel as if I were younger," declared the LAG striker. "Mentally I'm doing better, and of course I want to crown my career going to another World Cup."
@WillParchman: Costa Rica's Joel Campbell: Joel Campbell: "The way people are talking, you’d swear USA were Brazil. We have better players." This better pump the team up.
What people are these? What is he even talking about? If anything, American soccer fans talk exponentially more shit about their own team than is deserved, simply because it's one of the few sports we pay even a little attention to that we don't generally dominate.
He is clearly taking a page from the New England Patriots weekly "The world is against us" motivation. Every week, a Patriot player will talk about how someone in the press or the other team dissed them or doesn't believe they are any good and "we'll show them." Its make-believe.
No idea, but if they are copying it from the Miami Herald, then they are not attributing it. PS: Yep, just checked: they are the Miami Herald but in Spanish. So it's ok if they copy stuff. So not from CRC, but the same article has been republished everywhere it seems.
Here's a video tribute to Costa Rica's 2010 World Cup team: Sorry; couldn't resist. Best of luck on Friday; very much looking forward to a great game ETA: I suppose this could also apply to US wins @ CRC...
None of this is new. Costa Rica have always been the biggest trolls in Central America. That's just how they roll. Traffic jams, scheduling mixups, parties outside the hotel... same old, same old. The only difference is it's going to take quite an arm for the fans to hurl batteries onto the pitch in this new stadium. That and we aren't playing on aparking lot for a field.
I'm most likely very wrong but here's a new Aron Johannsson interview. I dont think he's talking long term because Jozy's only 23 even though AJ is 22 I think - so could he be talking about the the CR match? If so, I'm thinking he may of let the cat out of the bag by saying Jozy will rest and he will be getting the start. Again, I'm probably wrong - just something that sparked my mind. Also it's a very good read, Howard has some real nice things to say. “I’m focused on doing good, and focused on filling the shoes Jozy (Altidore) left,” Johannsson said. “Those are big shoes to fill so I’ve got to keep scoring goals and getting three points for my team.” http://iworldcup.org/2013/09/with-n...ed-on-solidifying-usmnt-spot/?fb_source=pubv1
If you're talking about this: “I’m focused on doing good, and focused on filling the shoes Jozy (Altidore) left,” Johannsson said. “Those are big shoes to fill so I’ve got to keep scoring goals and getting three points for my team.” I interpret that as him talking about AZ (the prior paragraph was about AZ) and segued into that quote.
I thought he was just talking about taking his place IF it came up to that. I would be very surprise if JK already decided who is going to be FS for the CR game.
From: the Costa Rica men's national soccer team and its fans To: the USSF Hey there, Just wanted to let you know that a little cold weather and a little snow totally psyches us out. Imagine how discombobulated we'd be if you put the 2017 WCQ in Syracuse or Anchorage or somewhere. Wait, did we say that with our out-loud voice?
Lets not lose touch of reality, Rico's are some of the nicest folks you will ever meet. I rate up there with Australians and Kiwi's. Beautiful country too. They are just passionate about soccer/ National team. After game in Denver both sides wished each other good luck to lots of CR fans in Quailfying for WC.
