I've never really seen the Ligue 1 so I can't judge the level of play. From what I've heard and read about though, its an up and coming league. Looking at the French national team at least since 1982 onward, they've performed pretty well. Therefore I'm sure the French produce top players its just that you never hear or read about them until they leave France. Not sure why really but it seems that way. For example I never knew much about any of these guys until they came to England, Italy or Germany... Platini, Blanc, Cantona, Henry, Ginola, then Zidane, Trezeguet, Deschamps, Desailly, Candela, Mexes and Ribery etc etc...
because their teams had won just a couple of trophies in the european competition and they never had a lot of money. almost all of the national team's roster plays abroad (England, mainly)...

Hey guys, I have a question, I am trying to figure out the gross salaries of each player. But these reported numbers don't make much sense to me. When I add up the players reported net wages for Milan, the sum is of 48 million net, yet Gazzetta reports that they paid out 120 million gross. Can someone explain to me why there is such a big difference?
Interestingly, France has won so much more then England will ever dream of and IMHO, have much better international players also ....
yes, but they all play abroad. that's why the NT has won a lot, while the clubs struggle in the international competitions. Anyway, you have also to consider that the home nations left FIFA and UEFA for several years. Who knows what would have happened if they didn't...
Yes this is true although their first successes were from 82-86 and fro what I recall, only Platini played abroad. Although, he was the greatest and probably one of the most important of his era.
