Wow-- a RBNY fan had this to say about the commercial on Empire of Soccer: "As a red bull fan I find this video both hilarious in its 1980s production and also misleading. Do I want the Cosmos? No. But it says in their proposal something like 4 acres of parkland will be created. The video is also hilarious, people clearly leaving stadium for halftime or the end of the game and they are taking the opportunity to say this is the norm. 8k for an NASL team is damn respectable. Now, F Cosmos." When people who don't even like you can see through your opposition....
I recommend their next anti-Cosmos move be to hold a breakdancing contest to oppose the stadium development project and replace it with a community center (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086999/).
Cosmos should sue them. Got to protect those media rights. That is why they gave the finger to MLS right? To control their television revenue.
I don't think you could. After all, it's a minute long, and it looks like it was filmed from a camcorder, so I don't think it was game footage. Should fall under fair use and private recording.
It LOOKS like footage they shot themselves with an iPad or iPhone or something. Some leagues (and some college conferences, like the SEC, I believe) have tried to say that every frame of everything shot in a league venue belongs to them, but I don't know if that would hold up or not. If it's not actual broadcast footage from One World, I think it gets a little murkier.
The list of prohibited items on the Cosmos website includes professional cameras and video equipment, so I guess this ad is officially amateurish.
