Wiki

A wiki is a special type of website that uses software (a wiki engine) that allows visitors to easily add new content and/or edit existing content. Wikis use a very simple markup language. Most of the work of formatting pages is done by the software. Knowledge of HTML is not required.

Be bold

You can edit an article by clicking on the "edit" tab that appears at the top of nearly every page (with the exception of a few special or protected pages). You can also create a new article. Be bold in editing and contributing articles. You can't accidentally permanently damage BigSoccer Wiki when you add or edit content. The wiki software keeps track of all previous versions of every page and allows for easy reversal of editing changes. Editing mistakes can always be fixed. Even vandalism can be reversed (and appropriate action taken against the culprit). So be bold.

Inmates run the asylum

BigSoccer Wiki, like all wikis, is written and edited by its readers. The basic premise is that, given enough editors and enough time, continuous improvement of an article will eventually result in a very good article. New articles often contain significant misinformation and errors but these are edited out.

Play nice

Be civil to other inmates. Respect other points of view. Add pertinent content. Don't criticize an article instead of working on it. Articles never start out being perfect. If you think an article needs help, then edit it. Don't just whine on a talk page. Editing speaks louder than complaints on a talk page.

How to help

  • Create a new article on a topic that interests you. Even a rudimentary article (a stub) is better than no article at all. Simply creating a stub may inspire others to work on the topic. There's no need to write the entire article or make it perfect. You (or others) can add to the article, correct it and improve it later.
  • Clean up an existing article. Many articles, especially when they are first written, are messy, incomprehensive and even incorrect. You can help by tidying up existing articles.
