One thing I'm happy about IS his ego. He is too competitive and cares too much about his reputation to come here take it easy.
You just copied my post in the other thread. Or I copied yours. The only other possibility is that great minds think alike... ok, I'll go with that.
This is very true, although I'm not sure Ola has shown much propensity for passing the ball anywhere near the box, so that could be an issue.
I think this is what you meant. If not I apologize. IIRC, Gio had a career year in 2016 with Bruce. Whether it was Bruce's doing or Gio wanting to prove he could be the Alpha player that whatever is gone. So just maybe having Zlatan be Zlatan and humiliate Gio on the pitch or in the media or perhaps being benched will get Gio going again. But he clearly hasn't been contributing so it's not a big loss if these don't work.
Paging @GalaxyKoa is it correct under MLS rules that outside sponsorship deals are taken in to account when calculating a player’s cap hit? And a DP can effectively have an unlimited amount of these because there is no upper limit to salary. A GAM/TAM player on the other hand has to have their salary reduced by X to come under Y in order to qualify. So Zlatan couldn’t sign for $3m and then get a $10m Adidas sponsorship because that would raise his compensation beyond what TAM reduced it by. So … what happens to players with existing sponsorship deals? He must have sponsorship deals well beyond the threshold covered by TAM. If pre-existing deals are exempt that’s a pretty big loophole. The conspiracy theorist/cynic in me says Zlatan signing a sponsorship deal with Samsung to use/promote amongst other things their Galaxy brand phone weeks before signing a deal the the LA Galaxy is curious timing at the very least.
If Andre Horta signs for Galaxy and comes anything close to fulfilling his potential, with Zlatan alongside, I don't see how your team doesn't walk the league. Aside from Giovinco, they'll be the best two players and it won't be even close.
Wow and I forgot Carlos Vela is on the team as well. That's just unfair for the rest of the MLS, to be honest. To give insight into how good Andre Horta CAN be, at a point last season if I was told two things could happen to him in the following season, 1) He'd be an undisputed starter for Benfica and would head to Russia with Portugal for the World Cup 2) What actually turned out to be the case I'd be much less surprised at the former having turn out to be true than the latter.
Sam Stejskal @samstejskal 4m4 minutes ago Just off the phone with LA Galaxy president Chris Klein. Club does not yet have a firm arrival date/time for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Could be this week, could be next. Klein said it's possible that he could play on Saturday against LAFC.
You get to call Chris Klein directly? Wow. Lucky for all involved that I don't have his phone #. Good possibility that I would have made some unpleasant phone calls last season.
The rule of thumb (with exceptions) is as long as MLS isn't paying it to him, it won't be on his budget charge. He can take advantage of whatever sponsorships he wants. If a team was paying a sponsor which was in turn paying a player, that wouldn't fly. If Adidas or Samsung feels he's marketable if he moves to the US, as long as they're not working with the Galaxy to subvert MLS rules, it's all good. The following is what goes into the calculation of budget charge: So you have #8 and which has some sponsorship implications and #12 which is a catch all. I'll admit I don't fully understand what #8 encompasses. I would imagine it's payments directly through MLS means, though.
