I've only seen the goal highlights, but it seems more that Dusseldorf can't defend. 3 or 4 of the goals have been 1-v-1 opportunities - not a lot a goalkeeper can do when that's happening so frequently.

Yeah, I watched the whole game, and all of the goals were 1v1s with the keeper or tap-ins from 7-8 yards after Dortmund carved up the defense. Steffen had no chance on any of them. He did have a couple good saves on long-range shots.

so, he's inherited the defensive backline that Guzan had at Villa

Yeah, every time I see them play, they look like trash, but occasionally, they hold the fort and get a goal or two on the counter to get a point or three out of a game.

Zach had 5 saves. Steffens was just fine and had several really good extension saves (long range ones, which folks have notice here is a weakness of his). Could have done better on the goal which went between his legs, I suppose.

Bürki had zero saves. And Düsseldorf had zero goals. Not a single shot on goal for the Düsseldorfers. Not much a keeper is going to do to save this game.

Guess Klinsi can save Steffen and Morales.

I remember when Guzan gave up 8 goals in one game with Villa and was still their best player.

Steffen will learn many things at Fortuna. The sad, frustrating loneliness of nothing to do in nets will not be one of them.

Good call Nostradamus, since he's on loan! ;)

    Just saw the highlights.

There were a couple good saves in the first half, but Steffen let in a weak goal for Leizpig's 3rd of the match (a near post header that he got his hands to but couldn't parry away).

Steffen had a howler on Augsburg's 3rd goal late in the game, letting a weak and harmless free kick from 30 yards out slip through his fingers.

He apparently had a good game up to that point, but that mistake is going to completely overshadow that. Unfortunately, it hasn't been a great month for him.

It makes no difference, they were going to lose anyway, and with a -19 GD (worst in the league), well, it doesn't matter either.

Seasons like this certainly give you experience...

Is it the right kind? I dunno.

Experience as shooting target in a top league.

It must be useful for something.
