Nor to the bench, but point taken. So far I think (after having seen YA loans fail many times) we're seeing a loan that's succeeding, for both teams and the player. Careers are short - even for goalkeepers - and Steffen should obviously be thinking about his next landing. Likely that won't be back at Man City, agreed, at least not right away, but I think Steffen has two more big steps left. Things seem very promising right now.
I guess the question is this loan causing Man City to rethink Steffen? Is he good enough to be their no.2 or is he too good to just ride pine and as such, they should maximize every cent by selling him?
Ederson is only 2 years older than Steffen -- so I agree that unseating him at Man City is a tall order. However, our man is showing he could belong in that upper echelon of GKs -- GGG's playing out of the back notwithstanding. I'd love to see him at a better Bundesliga team where GK is a weakness (*cough* Burki *cough*)
Or Schalke.... Nubel has rejected a new contract, is a hot commodity, and will probably be sold. Steffen could be a ready-made replacement.
Hopefully Schalke sells him. Their recent history (which got the one GM fired) was to let everyone just leave for free.
Game today (Friday) @ Hertha (currently 10th) - another fine chance to be the Bundesliga's featured attraction.
It's a question whether his skill set is correct for the way Schalke and Dortmond want to play, but he'd be an upgrade on shot-stopping there. BVB, at least, don't seem to need that ball skill from their keeper in order to generate offense so I think he'd be a good addition to their roster.

17 - Düsseldorf haven't achieved a clean sheet in the last 17 #Bundesliga games, more than any other current BL team. UnFORTUNAtely. #BSCF95 pic.twitter.com/PDgfTbICZt— OptaFranz (@OptaFranz) October 4, 2019
also watching bad teams matches because the keeper is american stinks. i am on highlights only duty from here on out
The overwhelming majority of our guys playing in Europe are or have been on bad teams, from Yedlin in Newcastle and Altidore in Sunderland, to Novakovich with Sittard and Sabbi/Cappis with Hobro, and usually most of our Championship contingent is in relegation-level teams.
Anyone know how many saves he had? Kicker app just shows shots, and Hertha had 17. I watched the game in the background. Painful. ohhh... whoscored.com , 3 shots on target for Hertha. So, no saves. Double bummer.
Lol. Looks like you found the stats right before I did. I didn’t see your reply before I edited my post since I was busy looking them up.
I recall Guzan having like 2 incredibly seasons for Aston Villa but eventually his crappy teammates and their performances got to him. I hope Steffen can keep his head up. Maybe it helps with him knowing he's only on loan and every solid performance showcases him to City or potential buyers.
There was a game Guzan gave up 8 goals (against Chelsea maybe) where he played great. Would've been way worse without his saves. I think some fans were even suggesting he was motm.
