Different Drummer - Michael Nesmith I'd forgotten he wrote this song. Stone Poneys featuring Linda Ronstadt had a hit with it in 1967.
Yea. There were other versions that were, I guess, "truer" to the tune, but I just envision this as how it came to him - every verse and line in an almost conversational tone........or this song was inspired by a conversation he once had; he just had to doctor it up to make it rhyme. BTW I just noticed that I referred to it as Different Drummer, instead of Drum. Oh well.
I know it marks a transitional sort of moment for the more funk-driven music of earlier Commodores music, but I have always loved the unpretentious message and perfect vocals on "Easy" - one of their first songs with Lionel Richie at the forefront. They alone made me "able" to be a fan of "Easy Listening" or "Soft Rock" when I was of an age when being such threatened social isolation.
I would like to try something a bit different for H this time around. This is a bit of the soundtrack from "Heaven Can Wait" and performed by Henry Mancini; it's one of my favorite scenes from any movie. It's 1:30 long. Training for the Rams by playing with butlers is great, and I love Jack Warden.
"On The Line" - Billy Strings - Turmoil & Tinfoil (2017) Saw him earlier this month; he's become an obsession....and I'm not particularly a huge bluegrass fan.
