Good interview! I guess if Ramos continues after this U20 WC, he will consider Kelman as he said he has the age to he in the next one.

What cap ties a player besides playing an official game with the NT?

Does any dual national playing in this upcoming U20 WC cap ties them to the US is what I want to know?

Playing in an official youth game like the U20 WC makes it so that they can only leave the program by filing a 1-time switch with FIFA

The only two ways to get tied permanently to a program are to play with a senior team in an official game or to file a 1-time switch with FIFA

If you aren't a dual national, playing in any official FIFA youth game - ie a confederation championship, a youth WC qualifier or a youth WC/Olympics - permanently cap-ties you.

If you have multiple citizenships at the time you play in any of those youth events, you are considered provisionally cap-tied by FIFA, meaning you can file a one-time switch to a country if A) you were a citizen of that country when you were provisionally cap-tied and B) you haven't played in a cap-tying event for the senior team.

If you are provisionally cap-tied, you can file a one-time switch with FIFA and switch federations if you were a citizen of the country you are switching to when you were provisionally cap-tied. Having said switch approved by FIFA automatically permanently cap-ties you to the country you're switching to, even if you never play for them at the senior team level.

Hence, a player like Jonathan Gonzalez, who was eligible for Mexican citizenship when he played for the US in a U20 World Cup qualifier, could switch to Mexico.

But a player like Diego Fagundez, who was only a citizen of Uruguay when he played for them in a U20 World Cup qualifier, can't switch to the US once he becomes a US citizen. Had he been a US citizen when he played in the U20 qualifiers, he could have switched.

They are 3rd place in the 2nd league. They are in the promotion playoff places, and six points behind the automatic places. If thats where he transfers to, its better than signing with a USL club because there's upward mobility to the first division, which is a similar level league to MLS (probably even better).

Gio Reyna has one day left as well to get registered for the remainder of the season. And according to reports, he has had his Portuguese passport. So, not sure what the hold up has been since he turned 16.

For what it might be worth, I would guess that if/when Taylor Booth gets his Italian passport, his younger YNT brother Zack could get one at more or less the same time. (This presumes that the family just ran down second copies of all the needed info while they were taking care of Taylor. Can't see why they wouldn't.)

IIRC, Borussia Dortmund are very low-key about academy additions. I wouldn't be shocked if there's no announcement at all, but Reyna just shows up in their first U19 game of 2019. I guess we'll find out on Sunday when BVB U19 plays Leverkusen.

Wouldn't he be in the U-17 team? U-19's this season is mostly 00's and 01's.

You're right. Since most Americans go to Germany as 18 year olds I just went on autopilot there.

And it looks like BVB U17 doesn't have a game until 2/17 against Schalke.

Here's Owen Otasowie's assist against Burnley in his return to the pitch.

Sounds like we'll get to see Taylor actually play soon!!! Just to completely screw with us, let's see Bayern loan Taylor to FCD after all of that time on the sidelines in the States. I've been hoping that this FCD-Bayern U23s friendly will be streamed. Perhaps Richards will also be playing.

So, can Gio Reyna even play this Winter/Spring if he's not announced at a European club today?

Yes. He doesn’t have to be announced. Borussia Dortmund, unlike most of Europe, often doesn’t announce youth signings.

He does however have to be registered by today, unless he used the Wright/Taitague loop-hole, which it doesn’t seem like he did. If he did, he can be registered at any point in the season.
