Elite footwork, but lacks acceleration. It's an unusual combo for a winger. You might ordinarily want to convert him to a #10, but he seems to be best when he has more time to make plays. Playmaking and IQ doesn't look like a problem. He seems to have a good base of talent, but he might be such an enigma due to this playing style where he clearly has technical talent, but is lacking athletically for the wing position. 1174131434770128896 is not a valid tweet id
Is it based on this clip or you have some sources? Here is the kid debuting among the players who are at least 2 years older than him. Reyna looked similarly lacking acceleration until we realised that he is an athletic freak.
I've seen plenty of clips when he was able to do it. Won't make any assumptions based on a 5 secs of video.
Although he does prefer to make a cross as soon as possible. Whether that's just a preference I don't know. But explosiveness is based on strength and he isn't close to be fully developed physically.
Pynadath seemed to take a dip over the last year and was a bit forgotten about. He was playing U17 as a U17, while most elite talent is playing up. However...he seems to have grown quite a bit. I remembered him as a scrawny tiny thing. Now, in this game, he looks tall and filled out. Maybe the RB for JPSV is tiny and it is an optical illusion. But he looked bigger. A big growth spurt like that could be why his form dropped (big problem athletically to grow that much in the short term) but could be why he is now on Jong PSV and doing well again. Or maybe I'm mis-remembering what he looked like 12 months ago...
So, is a new consensus on Pynadath (that he's skilled, but too slow, or something) forming basically because of that first highlight where he beats a guy and then for whatever reason decides to pull it back, make another move, and then finally put in a cross with his right? I mean, it might be true that he won't be able to do his thing against adults at full speed. But to me the highlights show a guy who, in the final sixth or so against one defender, can typically get a cross off, and when shut down by more than one can find a way to get the ball to a teammate. I think a lot of teams would be pretty happy with that, assuming that the player wasn't a major liability elsewhere. If he was having trouble making space at all, or he was constantly beating a guy and then having the same defender shut him down completely, or maybe he's a loafer without the ball, that's another thing. My completely made-up guess here is that Ajax sees what he can do, is aware of his possible weaknesses, and figures that his potential is worth some time.
Reyna's play looks very good (from these highlights). Good competition he played against, as well. 1174683872950456321 is not a valid tweet id
In other words, the sky is blue. The knock on him has always been his speed. I try not to give opinions on his game because I've yet to watch him play, but I've now seen a lot of these highlight videos, and he doesn't beat defenders for pace. He looks slow. Maybe he improves in that regard. At the same time, maybe I'm wrong. I'd like to watch him play to get a better idea, which is why admittedly I don't have as great of a grasp on his game as some other players, but I don't think it's hard to take from these highlight videos that he doesn't look to be all too fast.
It's interesting that Dortmund initially talked about Gio being a central player -- the same idea that Wicky had -- while it seems fairly obvious that his game is better suited to the wing right now.
He's an '06, but I saw that Cole Campbell of Atlanta United had a training stint this summer with Ajax's academy. He's not related to George Campbell.
I think who plays in the UEFA Youth League is often a good indicator of whether players are highly rated at their clubs. Matteo Ritaccio was not in the 18 for Liverpool, so that doesn't bode well for how he's rated at Liverpool. Noah Jones came off the bench for Leipzig with 10 minutes left in the game. A number of 02's started, but they had one of the older teams in match day one, so I wouldn't say him only getting 10 minutes does not mean Leipzig doesn't rate him. If he wasn't making the 18, that wouldn't bode well. Reyna and KDLF both started, as already mentioned. Pynadath was unavailable for Ajax, Booth was unavailable for Bayern.

There's a discussion going on on Gio's instagram page whether this ball actually went in. I kinda think it went through a hole in the side netting.

Balogun was on the bench for the Arsenal first team today in the EFL Cup. He didn't play, but it still shows that the club rates him highly that he made the bench at age 18.
Of course not as good as our previous trophy that at age of 16 "was compared favorably to Cesc Fabregas" according to Wikipedia, and now is a proud player of Swope Park Rangers.
