Availed myself a copy of the February Cal South soccer magazine: "Big. Fun. Free."
Inside we are given insight into one of CYSA's luminaries of the youth game, a Mr. Matt McDonagh, helmsman of Celtic FC of Upland California for the past 25 years. McDonagh guided his U14 boys to the national championship, and we are given an insight into his motivational techniques:

As they were heading to the field to play the game, he told his all-mexican team, in his Irish brogue, to "look at ourselves as a Mexican IRA (Irish Republican Army) guerrilla troop heading for Belfast."
After all said McDonagh, after years of playing for him,, his players "know more about the IRA and the philosophy thereof than the citizens of Ireland."

The magazine comments: McDonagh does not make the most politically correct statements during these days of the war on terrorism, but his players understod and now they're national champions.

Well aint that just peachy Cal South? Hope Mr. McDonagh took time to show his boys some photos of the IRA's handy work; bombs planted in railway stations and shopping centers indiscriminently ripping apart the bodies of innocent civillians, some no doubt, 14 year old boys.

So he romaticizes terrorists to teenaged hispanics; he wins championships doesn't he?

Wonder if Cal South magazine, who labelled McDonagh a "genius" would have been so cavalier had McDonagh instead analogized endeavor in soccer with say the 9/11 hijackers?

Now that's the type of profound well reasoned wisdom America needs more of. Here's an idea: Get that printed up on a t-shirt, and go take a stroll around New York. I'm sure no end of people will be willing to discuss the merits of the slogan with you.

Ah yes another angolphile who toes the official government line despite the fact that over the last 30 years the English have killed and murdered twice the number of people the IRA killed. Arresting Irish people and faking charges against them and throwing them in jail a la Guilford 4, Birmingham 6 and Maguire 7. Or the murder of all those innocent civil rights marchers in 1972 which saw so many people turn to the IRA as the only protection against state sanctioned English murder campaigns. The English history is one of genocide in Ireland. The so called northern Ireland was set up on the basis of a sectarian head count and after the English government turned a blind eye to the anti Irish aparteid style system and pogroms against Irish neighbourhoods.
Are the IRA perfect and all angels of course not but it's the English who are the root cause of and real evil.
As for making up that last commenting about 9/11 and trying to link it to the IRA, that is disgusting. Ireland is a free country thanks to the genius of Michael Collins and the IRA. The evils inflicted upon the Celtic people of Ireland is right up there with the worst evils the world has seen and they were all inflicted by England and continued in the 14% of Irish land which the English still occupy in Northern Ireland from 1922 down to the late 1960's when many people turned to the IRA to protect them from the English campaign of terror and murder which was their response to the Irish in Northern Ireland seeking to at least have equal civil rights.
