It's true that it isn't our classic 4-4-2, but looking at the games with Ecuador (where we used a 3-5-2) brings a little hope. Under Oblitas, we used 3-5-2 for France '98 and it worked out pretty well. We were so close (goal differential). Add to that, we finally have a decent defensive duo in the back. Both starting for their teams in Europe and very solid players (Santiago Acasiete was huge for Almeria who just won promotion to La Liga, Alberto Rodriguez @ Sporting Braga in Portugal).

But I mostly agree, we gotta look at the 3-5-2 very carefully.

Usually the formation works well whne your MF zone is also playing defense. I cant see Pizarro + Guerrero coming back to defend ?

Pizarro drops back a lot to help out with la marca and to bring the ball forward. We shall see.

Personally, I think the 3-5-2 screams ñol solano on the right side.

at least it's only for the Copa America. For WCQ, someone else has to take his place.

But if he's called up for WCQ, kudos to him. He's been taking part in the NT since 1989

all I can remember from Juanca in the 90s is him being a usefull bench player along with Roger Serrano for Oblitas

Thats crazy, that midfield wont win a single ball all game. lets just hope they can come back to get behind the ball and at least take space; there will be no marking in the midfield.
probably looking to win the ball on our own third, play it wide to farfan and counter quickly.
