peru havnt had a lot of great performances

in fact we have only had 2 good eras

from 67 to 78 we made
    1 final-Universitario 72
    6 semifinals - Universitario 67,71,75 - Alianza Lima 76,78 - Defensor Lima 74
    3 Quarter Finals - Universitario 68,70 - Sporting Cristal 68

then we had the sporting cristal years 93-97 they made
    1 final 97
    2 quarter finals 93,95

apart from these 2 eras we havnt achieve anything memorable

    according to conmebol.com

nacional de medellin is better in colLection of points coperos, nacional has a copa Merconorte on their shelfs. But america follows very close, america suffers un maleficio de un brujo! LA MECHITA

IN THE OLD DAYS: millonarios, la epoca dorada del futbol colombiano

    Re: question of colombian teams

The 3 biggest clubs have to be:
    America de Cali
    Deportivo Cali
    Millos

with honorable mention to Atl. Nacional.

All others have come and gone.

And Condor..you're right, it is hard being an America fan and losing all those finals...especially when we lose them like we did against Penarol...but America is class and will be in the Libertadores for 2005...count on it!

As for the Colombian teams in the Libertadores in '04 I would say, Dep. Cali has the best shot..but this has been regarded as 'the group of death:

    Boca
    Dep. Cali
    Bolivar
    Colo-Colo

I think that Once Caldas because of their maturity will also play a big role in this tournament...and Tolima...no chance...they have always been a 3rd tier team in Colombia, and are in this championship by fortune (and some good play)...I would have rather seen Junior in the tournament...but as an America fan...I WILL NEVER support Dep. Cali...and as a River Plate fan...I strngly dislike Boca...so i have to go with Colo-Colo because I really enjoy watching Chilean football!!!

    Chile in Copa libertadores....

Well...I can probably name a few finalist, I'm not sure on the scores, but somebody if interested might look it up.
    I'll use the same format,
    Year winner vs runner up.
1973 Independiente vs Colo Colo (three very tight games played)

1975 Independiente vs Union Española (this small chilean team almost made it...3 tight games)

1981 Flamengo vs Cobreloa (another three very tight games....better luck next time)

1982 Peñarol vs Cobreloa (This small team from the north of Chile made it twice in a row to the final)

1991 COLO COLO vs Olimpia (0-0 in Paraguay, 3-0 in Santiago....Colo Colo dominated the cup that year)

1993 Sao Paulo vs U. Catolica (Catolica almost made it hapen)

    Venezuela's performance:

Why do we always have to talk about the past? let's talk about the present.

we need to talk about the past to :
    1) come up with some sort of future prediction --especially if one bets!
    2) nothing better then remembering games, finals, champions of previous Libertadores
    3) If Venezuela EVER wins a Libertadores, you, your children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren will be talking about it forever! --trust me, that's the only spine on America De Cali's back --gone 4 times to the finals, but Atl. Nacional wins it on the 1st try at the finals in 89'---urrgghh

In summary.... IT'S NICE to remember...

    1) When you almost had it....
    2) When you could almost taste it....
    3) When a penalty kick against you in the 90th minute changed history.
    4) When a referee robs you silly..."La copa se mira y no se toca"
    5) When your goalie was kicked inside your goaline while he was holding the ball...and your team loses the game...
    6) and then finally when your favorite team goes ALL the way....and the entire country celebrates no matter what team the follow!!!

Indeed it is NICE to remember...

I understand, it's cool. I was very happy when Cienciano won Copa Sudamericana and I'm have no connection at all with Peru.

Re: Equipos Colombianos en la Finales....

wow, I remember seeing that on Univision or was it Telemundo? My uncle and gramps called me in to watch the games with them. I was 9, and though i played a little in a organized soccer league... but we just chased the ball around like a bunch of nomads...

Seeing the 89' Libertadores was a treat....

I think that was in the old days (the late-80's) back when Univision use to show Napoli - Roma games....

My earliest memories of 'club' soccer includes Higuita and his hijinks .... ha ha and Andres Cantor would be yellin' from the top of his lungs..

"El Loco Higuita...." and I couldn't help agree... "what's he doing? Go back, Rene! Go Back!" haha

ahh yes and then Nacional played the Toyota Cup in snow right? (first time I saw an orange soccer ball in official play)

Now that my friends was futbol.

Cienciano is in after beating (upstart club) Bolognesi, 2-0.

I guess I am glad I missed the second half as all the scoring came in the first. Gols by Acasiete and Carty
