Who was the youngest capped Irish international? The Rooney/Adu-hype made me wonder this about other countries.

Could be Robbie Keane, but I'm not sure.

Keanes definitely the youngest goal scorer, so I'd say he's a good shout for youngest cap alright.

giles was the youngest cap in his time at 19 but keane was younger on his debut (18?). what about mark kelly though, then of portsmouth (i think) and "the new george best", later of sligo rovers. i think he was 17 when he played under charlton? i was at it - i think it was the same game cascarino played his first game for ireland under charlton and i think he scored. sheedy got one too i think.

*#*#*#*#, my memory isn't what it used to be...

Could it be a Jimmy someone from the 1970's ?. I think he played in defence, and made his debut at 17 or so.

Possibly. There's a middle-aged Irish bloke who works in the same police station as my sister who claims to hold this record. So if it's true, Ireland's youngest ever player is now a PC in West Midlands police.

Well, I'm a bit sceptical, but you never know.

You could br right about Jimmy Holmes. Found this:

    http://www.kickinmagazine.ie/international/30571austria.htm

Coventry City's Jimmy Holmes becomes Ireland's youngest debutant at 17 years, 200 days (same day as Eamonn Dunphy's last cap!).
