I AZume they will change the title AZ soon AZ Jozy signs and there is an official story on the team website: www.az.nl
at least its not all about the money for jozy. he had offers for much more money, but he took this sacrifice to develop.
its a smart move. they made a deal that when AZ sell jozy in a few years, there will get a specific amount of that money. if he actually does turn into a beast with AZ, then he could be sold for more then what villarreal bought him for.
AZ aren't the club they used to be some years ago. They had been massively sponsored by their former president Dirk Scheringa; his bank crashed in 2009. Now it's just a club in a town of less than 100.000 citizens; they won't pay several millions for a player for quite some time.
AZ have sold their star striker to Ajax for two consecutive seasons now (not bragging about that trust me). Both were sold for quote a bit less than what Villareal paid for Jozy. Not saying it's impossible...but for context Mounir El Hamdaoui was considered to be the best striker in the league right up there with Luis Suarez when he was sold. Sigthorsson wasn't a completely proven commodity but a very solid young prospect when he was sold. Just saying that history tells us that Jozy is going to have to melt faces and score something like 30+ goals for many seasons to get AZ a fee over €7.4 million.

Yeah, and anyone who thought that at the time needs to be tested for crack. The notion is beyond ludicrous. He was never anywhere near Suarez level. The other good news for Jozy is he should be easily able to find that Turkish dish he loved so much in Alkmaar. Plenty of immigrants with Turkish restaurants to choose from.

Totally agreed you don't need to tell me. But who was better than Mounir besides Suarez in his golden boot year? Berg? Nkufo? But this is besides the point. My point wasn't to compare Mounir to Suarez, but to compare Jozy to Mounir for context on his potential value.
