    Snip:
Pierie, born in Boston and the son of a surgeon who worked at the hospital of Harvard University, is a very smart kid, always at the highest level at school and regularly playing with older boys as he developed. He has adapted very quickly to Dutch football, so his debut for Heerenveen this year was not a big surprise. Pierie is already a regular as a left-sided central defender, reading the game well and not displaying fear. He was outstanding against PSV and was voted in the Eredivisie team of the week by one Dutch newspaper. Ajax were among the clubs hoping to sign him last summer but Pierie chose to stay in the north of Holland where he has profited from the varied training Heerenveen are providing him with. He is the only player in the Dutch under-19 team born in 2000.

If he were a central defender only, that would increase his chances of going to the US, with the young CD competition the Dutch have. He has played mostly CD at club level. But his versatility as a left back, a position which it appears he has played regularly for Dutch youth teams, makes it seem unlikely he'd switch.

  2. Article (use google translate for crude translation) about the future Orange team:

I'm afraid it is extremely unlikely Kik is going to try to play for anyone but Netherlands.

And never trust a report that says he is staying "in the north of Holland..." He is staying north of Holland.

With his track record at this young age, he's extremely unlikely to see the USA as anything other than a fall-back option, and with the Dutch MNT ;)in the same boat as the USA MNT - clear out the over-30s and give the youngsters a go - he'd be crazy to do otherwise. 17 year-olds who are starting, let alone starting at LB, in the Eredivisie are rather rare: I expect he'll be cap-tied to the Kingdom of the Netherlands :whistling: before too long.

I think he's eligible for France maybe? He could spurn both "wait for 2022!" teams.

Just an FYI, you are not allowed to have dual citizenship in Netherlands. I know this from personal experience. Since he is playing for Netherlands already then it means he only has Dutch citizenship, which means he will probably never play for the US unless he gives up his Dutch citizenship

Here's an official source on dual citizenship in the Netherlands:

    https://www.government.nl/topics/dutch-nationality/dual-nationality

Most of the renunciation laws apply to naturalization into another citizenship while also being Dutch. There are too many Dutch-US citizens in the US set-up (Dest, Payne, Stewart) to think that they are required to renounce their Dutch citizenship to retain US citizenship.

'veen falls apart in the late going... down 2-1 and about to lose.

Didn't watch so I'll have to check the highlights to see if Kiki was responsible.

'veen on a really bad losing run, though... ugh.

Kik not primary fault on 1st - though none of the 'veen backs covered themselves in glory there.

Not sure if that was Pierie who keep AZ onside on the 2nd (and they were probably off, but poor attempt at playing the trap. 'veen deserves to not get that call - need to be sharper.)

  17. Sparta – SC Heerenveen 0-0
    Sparta: Kortsmit 6; Holst 5,5, Breuer 6, Fischer 6, Marfelt 4 (70. Floranus -); Dougall 6,5, Sanusi 6, Spierings 5, Duarte 5 (83. Ache -); Brogno 5 (59. Goodwin 6), Mühren 5.
    SC Heerenveen: Hahn 6; Dumfries 6, Høegh 6, Naess 6, Pierie 6,5; Schaars 6, Kobayashi 6,5, Vlap 6,5 (83. Thorsby -); Ødegaard 7, Ghoochannejhad 5,5 (46. Veerman 5), Mihajlovic 5,5 (60. Rojas 5).
    Arbiter: Manschot 5

'veen win 4-0 to give TWente's new coach a welcome present. Kik seemed to do fine. I watched Newcastle and just checked the feed. Credited with on great pass, otherwise few mentions as Twente was toothless.

A team that doesn't have Lozano seems suspect to me.

  24. Well, it's because of the 4-4-2 formation they chose over 4-3-3.
