Wanted to create a thread to gather together as much about this camp as possible. I'm sure there will be several intra-(and inter-) squad scrimmages, and maybe a friendly or two. 153 players in total were called up in 5 age groups, from U-16 to U-20. https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...it-brings-153-players-together-in-single-camp
I'm really excited about this. Think it's a huge step in the right direction re player/program development. We'll certainly be better off if we have all our age groups playing the same style and tactics from the beginning.
#usynt thoughts: The current USMNT is rather devoid of wingers. They are still ways away but the '00/'01s boast: Carleton, Weah, de la Fuente, Reyes, Llanez, Az. Gonzalez, J. Hernandez, Akinola, Reynolds, Vassilev, Hawkins, Ayon, Z. Jones, Cassagnol. Need 2-5 to breakthrough— Joey (@USAprospects) December 29, 2017
Still no Efra Alvarez.................. Maybe I should stop pining for the guy that got away, and start focusing on the kids that are committed to our cause Also, still no Jesus Ferreira. He'll be one of our better '00s when eligible.
Interestingly, the release from US Soccer lists Booth as unattached, while the RSL press release lists him as still being with the academy: https://www.rsl.com/post/2017/12/29/six-rsl-academy-members-called-youth-usa-camp This may just be wishful thinking on RSL's part, but the club designations aren't always gospel.
Chris Gloster, from the Red Bulls academy, is also listed as Unattached. I don't know what Booth has been up to, but Gloster recently trialed (or might still be trialing) at Schalke.

This is really cool. Props to you man, you are an awesome asset to this board, your research work and knowledge of the program is really appreciated.
Copying this post of mine from the Yanks on Foreign YNTs 1997-later thread: Our new youth mega-camp has, by my count, NINE players who have been on foreign YNTs at some point. '02 DF Michael Barragan, was with Mexico U15s (their '02s, including Efrain Alvarez) just a few months ago. This is his first US camp. '00 DF Sergino Dest, represented Netherlands at U15 and is provisionally cap-tied to the US. '01 FW Jalen Hawkins, represented Germany at U15. Note '01 FW Justin Butler is also now with the US but hadn't been called up by the DFB. This is their first US camp; well done by the USSF to bring in these two and Barragan. '01 DF Ian Hoffmann, represented Germany at U16 and U17. '01 FW Ulysses Llanez, represented Mexico at U16. '99 FW Justin McMaster, represented Jamaica at U15 and U17, and is provisionally cap-tied to them. '01 GK David Ochoa, represented Mexico at U16. '99 FW Nebiyou Perry, represented Sweden at U17 and U18 and is provisionally cap-tied to them. '99 MF Noah Verhoeven, represented Canada at U15.
We did get one of Efra's '02 Mexico YNT teammates, CB Michael Barragan, born in Arizona and now playing for Atlas U17. USA Prospects says he's done very well for Atlas and is still wanted by Mexico. After doing a fair amount of old-fashioned clicking (the only way to get info from the Liga MX site), it appears he's the only '02 to appear for Atlas U17; all the others have been '00s and '01s.
I was thinking that too. That was one of the good ideas that Klinsmann had; it just wasn't clear with him what those styles and tactics were supposed to be.
So they can all lose again to Trinidad in 4 years time after the morons at USSF hire another Arena clone?
You bring up an interesting point Real Salt Lake trying to sign academy MF Taylor Booth (U.S. U-18s), but Bayern Munich is now the front-runner #rsl #mls #fcbayern— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) December 30, 2017
You've been a member on these forums for 11 years, and you come into a thread about a youth national team camp to post this? Why?
You mean the same morons who put together this USSF Youth Summit which just happens to be a positive all across the board?
I'm just skeptical of the USSF right now. I don't believe them when they say they're trying to fix the problem. It's going to take a lot more than a USSF Youth Summit to convince me that they're serious.
There's plenty of reason to be skeptical. But this is a thread about the Summit camp, which is a positive step. Other concerns about USSF probably have threads where they would be more appropriate.
While this is a nice step forward, we are one youth national team short. I'd really like to see a U23 camp this winter. Granted, a lot of the top players in the U23 pool are either abroad and won't be released or are good enough to be in the senior team's January camp but there's still a lot of players who aren't ready for the senior team but might be able to crack the U23 lineup who could use a camp. Hell, even if it's just for the top 97s and 98s still in college, with a handful of MLS players, it's still a good start. Have it in SoCal and let them serve as scrimmage fodder for the senior team. (USA Basketball does this; they have college players scrimmage the NBA guys on Team USA to get them ready for the world championships and Olympics.) Honestly, there's zero reason not to do this other than a lack of someone pushing to making it happen.
