Seattle has invested a lot of PT in this unsigned '99 kid so far. He has played every minute of S2's first four matches.
Yeah off the top of my head, I'd say that him, Trusty, McKenzie, and Batista probably have the most playing time for YNT-eligible players in the USL and all are centerbacks. Probably add Castellanos in there too. Zubak is the only attacker really starting week in/week out
USL minutes leaders so far: 450 - Lamar Batista 360 - Ethan Zubak 360 - Jackson Yueill 360 - Samual Rogers 338 - Pierre da Silva 295 - Ryley Kraft 284 - Augustine Williams 270 - Auston Trusty 270 - Hugo Arellano 270 - Chris Durkin 253 - Adrian Vera 203 - Blake Bodily 191 - Felipe Hernandez 180 - Mark McKenzie 180 - Robert Castellanos 180 - Jeremy Ebobisse 180 - Collin Fernandez I think that's everyone with => 180 minutes
Here's a decent article on Sam Rogers. Seems like he formally served as the Sounders Academy U18 captain and is a converted defensive midfielder being asked to play center back to work on his one on one defending.
And another article highlighting him: http://www.soundersfc.com/post/2017/04/17/sounders-academy-standouts-benefitting-first-team-coaches
Beating a dead horse......................... Now more than ever, FC Dallas needs a USL team http://www.bigdsoccer.com/2017/4/17/15324622/fc-dallas-usl-team-academy-dallas-cup-champions
Ever wonder why nobody every writes that something is needed Now, but not as much as in some other times in the past ?
There is an interesting dynamic evolving in US Soccer where some players like Rogers and O'Toole (NYRB) who have played a fairly large role for USL teams have to take a step down in competition by going off to college. No other sport in the US has a similar dynamic. Villanova and Princeton are very good to great schools, but soccer wise it is a big step down to go from USL to playing part time soccer. Perhaps Rogers gets a pro deal. I doubt O'Toole would get an offer because it would be out of character for Red Bull and frankly O'Toole would be dumb to sign it over going to Princeton.
Pierre da Silva assisted on OCB's late equalizer last night (free kick), which makes him the current USL assist leader with four.
I expect da Silva to be a good professional as a floor, and could end up being very good. I always thought highly of him on the U17s even though he was usually coming off the bench in a talented midfield. NYCFC missed out on him.
It also doesn't hurt that Orlando is creating a sick environment for him and a few others to develop.
USL Orange County signed 97s Zach Kobayashi, who'd been in Europe and has YNT experience, and Michael Suchy. http://www.uslsoccer.com/news_article/show/783584?referrer_id=2349190
For those who didn't click the link, Suchy is on an amateur deal. He does look like a guy who is looking to go pro when/where possible - he's a 97 so if he were planning on going to college he'd be there already.
What's more, he graduated in 2015, so he would certainly seem to be thinking past college. https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player-profile/michael-suchy/pid-38873 TDS had him training at River Plate a while back. The article mentions that he did not have dual citizenship anywhere, but with foreign lineage that might or might not be useful. https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/clu...rospects:-gk-trains-with-river-plate_aid29064
4 current @LAGalaxyAcademy players starting for @LAGalaxyII. Ian Lonergan 99', Alex Juarez 98', Jona Estrada 00' and Jorge Hernandez 00'— LA Galaxy Academy (@LAGalaxyAcademy) April 23, 2017
LA II started Diallo, Engola, and Fujii; Lassiter came off the bench. The other 14 players in the 18 were all YNT-eligible! In addition to the four players mentioned in the tweet, Sneddon, Arellano, Vera, and Zubak started. Arteaga and Bailey came off the bench, while E. Payeras, Castellanos, Lopez, and Agredo were unused subs. Nice work, LA.
Some names picked-up from the box scores. Trusty, Jones started for Bethlehem. Lost 0-2 EPB started for SKC Rangers - Lost 3-4 Devin Vega first start for SA - Won 2-1. Da Silva started for OCB - Won 2-0. Williams, Bodily started for T2 - Won 2-0. Rogers stared for S2 - Lost 3-1. Some highlights. Don't really know the minor academy players to include them.
It seems like SPR amateur and recent US U20 midfielder Felipe Hernandez had a bad day at the office. He was subbed in the 34th minute. One might normally suspect injury, but SPR was down 3-0 and pulled a very rare first half double substitution.
