Yes, but I wouldn’t want him to play for the US. I’m afraid his technical skills are woeful, and that’s a nice way of saying it. Just my opinion though.

Here's an interesting article about Brendan Aaronson of Philadelphia Union from Matthew de George of the Athletic, with multiple quotes from Tab Ramos, Jim Curtin, and the player himself. The article is paywalled, so I'll list comments from Curtin and Ramos that most specifically analyze Aaronson's play.

    https://theathletic.com/804598/2019...nion-hope-to-develop-an-elite-american-no-10/

Curtin's comments in the article signal that the opportunity could be there for Aaronson with a good preseason.

Wish I saw the game Carleton did well in.

Anyone have a sense of what happened in the other games today?

Here's all of Carleton's touches from this game. I was pretty happy with his performance:

FC Cincinnati has signed five (five!) draft picks. Two are thread-eligible:

Tommy McCabe '98, a CM who is most famous for being picked ahead of Weston McKennie for the U17 WC team a few years ago.

Rashawn Dally '97, a Jamaican-American forward from CT. He's been called into a Jamaican youth camp in the past, but I don't think he's played in any official games.

Reposting some info from the supporters summit.

-Bez and Porter spoke about the necessity for a “Crew 2”. Sounds like it may be a couple years away since building a new stadium and training center will be the focus.

-Porter talked about developing youth and creating a pathway for them to reach the first team as something he is excited to create. This doesn’t seem to fit with the general opinion of him and youth development.

-Precourt/Berhalter made some drastic changes to the youth development setup and it might take some time to get things back to how the new ownership wants.

Porter in general has talked the talk over the years at Portland. He just didn't walk the walk. But maybe that was just organizationally how Portland's leadership wanted to run the club. The same culture has continued there after his departure. So maybe in Columbus he'll be able to get back to working with young players. We'll see.

They now have noisy neighbors to the South and it'll be interesting to see how that rivalry will push the Crew.

Despite the recent uncertainty, the Crew does have talent in their academy. There's that one kid that gave FCD absolute fits last year in the DA playoffs. What was his name? Sarver?

MLS teams having reserve teams should be mandated. This is a basic part of a football club. If MLS wants to be taken seriously, their teams can't not have this very basic development tool.

Parks is such a smooth player. he fakes he is going to pass, pulls the ball back and goes the opposite way, leaving the opponent looking silly

Welp. That didn't last long. Borges is a '97 defender that's played for the US U18s and U20s in the past. He was pick #28 in the draft.......................

Speculation is that Borges could catch on with RBNYII. He was in their academy before college...

When Garber talks about becoming a selling league, things like an academy and a legitimate reserve team are critical components for every club that is interested in developing their own players. There will always be pushback from some clubs, but a league-wide commitment to both is absolutely essential.
