And Wake adds another YNT in Koby Carr. Good morning, Deacon fans. Start your day with a Koby Carr NLI! He's the No. 35 prospect in the country with U.S. U-18 National Team experience. The versatile @DynamoDashYouth product can play on the back line or in the midfield. pic.twitter.com/OOiJSeFXMR— Wake Forest Men's Soccer (@WakeMSoccer) February 8, 2018
And Portland's huge onslaught of YNTs continues with the addition of 00 Kelee Cornfield-Saunders, who was in residency awhile last cycle. Signing Day Part 2 begins with welcoming Kelee Cornfield-Saunders to the @PortlandPilots Family! And we're not done yet 👀! ⚓️⚽️💯 @VillaDrumSquad @WCCsports @LAGalaxy @TopDrawerSoccer #NationalSigningDay #GoPilots #SoccerCityUSA #1T1G1F pic.twitter.com/5CMj2tU1h4— Portland Pilots Men's Soccer (@PortlandMSOC) February 8, 2018
Cal lands RSL's Sebastian Soto, a 00 who got a lot of looks in the last U17 cycle. Welcome to the Golden Bear family, Sebastian! #NSD18 #GoBears 🐻⚽️ pic.twitter.com/yH9EXCJ098— Cal Men's Soccer (@CalMSoc) February 8, 2018
Here's the full list for the Galaxy (10 players in all) https://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2018/...unce-college-commitments-national-signing-day Lonergan, Estrada and Arteaga all got time with Los Dos but I guess they won't be getting professional offers this time around.
I'm gonna make an exception to my (not written in stone) policy of only posting official LOI announcements from schools and post this here: Ben Huynh is a 00 from the Sounders academy who was in a couple of camps last cycle. He's going to the Naval Academy, as announced below on his twitter account and, yesterday, by the Sounders. DOD regs prevent announcing incoming cadets/midshipman till the summer so you can't get an official announcement from the school, hence the exception. 942501414194073600 is not a valid tweet id
It's not on twitter (that I could find) but we have an "old-fashioned" press-release on a website! from Marquette and their class includes Gabe Kash, a 99 from Sporting KC's academy who got some U18 looks last cycle. http://www.gomarquette.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/020718aaa.html
Plenty of players have committed to a university, and then signed a pro contract before the university season started.
AJ Seals, a 00 from Orlando's academy who was in the mega-camp last month has signed with NC State. The letter is in! Welcome to the PACK, AJ Seals. #GoPack pic.twitter.com/99RxWJ6dA9— NC State Men's Soccer (@PackMensSoccer) February 8, 2018
By my count, I have 19 99/00s who have been with the YNTs since 2016 who are HS seniors this fall who have verbally committed to a program but it hasn't been announced yet. So we can expect more signings to come.
Carlos "Charly" Anguiano, a 00 from the LA Galaxy academy who got some U17 looks, has signed with Cal State Fullerton. Can't wait to see @_CharlyAnguiano on the pitch inside Titan Stadium! Welcome to Cal State Fullerton Charly! #TusksUp pic.twitter.com/RvcFa80i9q— Titans Men's Soccer (@FullertonMSOC) February 8, 2018
Somehow, Portland has the money (or charm) to get one more YNT player. Tristan Weber, a 00 who got some looks from the 17s last year, has signed with the Pilots. Welcome to the @PortlandPilots family @tristanweber7 ! #MoreToCome ⚓️⚽️💯 @VillaDrumSquad @WCCsports @SCHSTritons @TopDrawerSoccer #NationalSigningDay #GoPilots #SoccerCityUSA #1T1G1F pic.twitter.com/fHpYSD4zSB— Portland Pilots Men's Soccer (@PortlandMSOC) February 8, 2018
Guessing money and minutes. They had eight seniors and two pretty small classes behind them. At least two of those seniors were probably on full rides. And it wouldn't be shocking if Michel and Ortiz aren't back in the fall.
Jean-Julian Foe Nuphaus, a 00 D from the Earthquakes academy who was in the U19 YNT camp last month, is going to Cal. (I know the Quakes are really high on him so I don't know how long he'll be in Berkeley. Welcome to the Golden Bear family, JJ! #NSD18 #GoBears🐻⚽️ pic.twitter.com/9VidH5u2d9— Cal Men's Soccer (@CalMSoc) February 9, 2018
Another old-fashioned press release to announce another YNT player as UMBC's recruiting class includes DC United GK Quantrell Jones, a 00 who was with the U17 team several times last cycle. http://umbcretrievers.com/sports/msoc/2017-18/releases/20180212k7j8je
Akron, which has produced a few pro players of late, announces 00 YNT defender Carlo Ritaccio. Please help us welcome Carlo Ritaccio (Westbury, N.Y.) to the Akron Men's Soccer Family. @ZipsMSoc pic.twitter.com/rk27SwLUTV— Akron Zips M Soccer (@ZipsMSoc) February 12, 2018
Cal's incoming class looks particularly interesting. I won't be surprised if some guys never make it to campus or are one-and-done. Though of course, sometimes players stick around for 1-2 years longer than they might otherwise at prestige academic institutions. They even have a kid named Christian Gomez! That made me check in on what happened to the tail end of the Argentine Christian Gomez's career and, believe it or not, he's still playing in the Argentine second tier at age 43(!)
Here's one that will be of interest to @Dave Marino-Nachison and other followers of YNTs abroad. Cody Sundqvist, a 99 who has been with Firoentina's academy in Italy and got some U18 call-ups last cycle, has signed with UCLA. Welcome to Westwood to our next NLI signee, Cody Sundquist.Cody is from Granite Bay, Calif. and the Fiorentina Youth Academy. He has been a captain for the U.S. U-14 Boys National Team and trained with Liverpool.#GoBruins pic.twitter.com/NpOwc6mE9q— UCLA Men's Soccer (@UCLAMSoccer) February 12, 2018
Sam Fowler, a 00 GK from the Sounders' academy who was in the mega-camp last month stays in Seattle and signs with Washington. Last but not least... Welcome Sam Fowler, Goalkeeper from Sounders Academy. Sam has also spent time with the U.S. U-17 National Team throughout the year! pic.twitter.com/AmaLDbCEOI— Washington Men's Soccer (@UW_MSoccer) February 12, 2018
He announced it himself on Twitter last month -- I guess this makes it about as official as it gets...
I can't take much credit. The only reason I knew that was because someone else told me! Thanks for all your signing-related posts. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/cody-sundquist-at-osnabrueck.2028187/page-2#post-36256133
One thing FCD does that I really like is that they've turned college signing night into a big deal. It has a sponsor. They even live-streamed part of this event last night with players and their families. 80 kids signed their Letters of Intent. What's always surprising to me is the number of boys not in the DA program that get NCAA scholarships. They're in the Premier and Select Teams. [Also, we only focus on the boys' teams here. The FCD women's academy is starting to really fire on all cyclinders as well. They just destroy people down in Texas.] Tonight, we will proudly celebrate every FC Dallas Youth player who has signed his or her National Letter of Intent to play collegiate soccer. https://instagram.com/p/BfPlDJSl73w/ So Chris Richards of FCD who, may or may not have been on trial with Schalke, signed an NLI with UNC. Of course plenty of kids sign and never go to college. But that tweet with Cory Gibbs, Weston McKinnie, and Zyen Jones made me think Cory was also his agent. Guiding the boys in the right direction. The bottom picture sums up the relationship between us. Good times in Germany and a bright future for these 3 boys! @WMckennie @Kingzyen @eastmamba @#TeamWass #Germany @s04_en @s04 @ussoccer @DFB pic.twitter.com/9mgmhsiyOo— Cory Gibbs (@corygibbs) February 1, 2018 He can’t have an agent and sign a NLI. I wonder if he just was networking with Gibbs. I don’t really have questions I just think the whole scenario is intriguing.
It's not an unreasonable question to ask. Players can have "advisers" who are agents they haven't signed with, as long as they don't take anything from said agent. (Technically they can't even have verbal agreements but that's tough to govern.) The question with Gibbs and Richards is who footed the bill for Richards' trip to Germany? If it was Gibbs/Wasserman or a German club, then all bets are off in terms of the NCAA. But if Richards and his family paid for the trip and Gibbs just happened to be there as an adviser, then he an still play college soccer. I doubt the NCAA goes out of its way to investigate this as it's college soccer and we know they don't give a shit about it. But after all the issues UNC has had of late with the NCAA, I imagine their compliance department will take a look into this just to be safe.
Jose Bencomo, a 00 CB from the Rapids academy who got some U17 looks last cycle, has signed a LOI with Utah Valley. http://gouvu.com/news/2018/2/22/mens-soccer-coveted-recruit-bencomo-chooses-uvu.aspx
