Missouri State survives unbeaten after another tie, this time a scoreless one at Tulsa. A quick look at their RPI shows us how little the computer thinks of Missouri State's strength of schedule. PERFECT, SO FAR (1) 9. Saint Mary’s – 12-0-0 UNBEATEN, BUT TIED (2) 11. Portland – 9-0-2 64. Missouri State – 7-0-4 WINLESS, BUT WITH TIES (1) 201. Central Connecticut – 0-9-1
Portland stays unbeaten, beating Loyola Marymount. Central Connecticut stays winless, losing to Mount St. Mary's. PERFECT, SO FAR (1) 9. Saint Mary’s – 12-0-0 UNBEATEN, BUT TIED (2) 11. Portland – 10-0-2 57. Missouri State – 7-0-4 WINLESS, BUT WITH TIES (1) 201. Central Connecticut – 0-10-1
And then there were two. Missouri State suffers its first loss of the year, falling to Loyola Chicago. St. Mary's had no such trouble, beating San Francisco 8 (eight!) to 0. The Gales currently leads the NCAA in goals-scored and fewest goals-allowed. That means the only two undefeated teams are from the West Coast Conference. PERFECT, SO FAR (1) 8. Saint Mary’s – 13-0-0 UNBEATEN, BUT TIED (1) 11. Portland – 10-0-2 WINLESS, BUT WITH TIES (1) 203. Central Connecticut – 0-10-1 Portland hosts 128. San Diego tomorrow.
Portland rallies (at home) for a tie with San Diego to keep them undefeated. Just three games for Portland and four for St. Mary's and we can have a battle of unbeaten teams the last weekend of the regular season playing for the West Coast conference title. St. Mary's - 107. Santa Clara, @ 101. San Diego, @ 115. Loyola Marymount, 179. Gonzaga Portland - @ 72. San Francisco, @ 107. Santa Clara, 179. Gonzaga No games involving any of the teams left on our list till the weekend. PERFECT, SO FAR (1) 9. Saint Mary’s – 13-0-0 UNBEATEN, BUT TIED (1) 15. Portland – 10-0-3 WINLESS, BUT WITH TIES (1) 203. Central Connecticut – 0-10-1
Central Connecticut's run of futility continued as they fell to St. Francis-PA 4-2. They are running out of games to get off the schneid, though all three of their remaining games are against teams almost as bad as they are. The Blue Devils finish @ 200. Robert Morris, then 193 Sacred Heart at home and 177. Bryant at home.
I think he'll be canned after this year. Remember when the student paper wrote an article critical of him a few years ago and Green went around campus and stole all the copies of the paper to limit the story being circulated? He got reprimanded for that but should've been canned. Combine that with being winless and being a bad team for years despite being in an awful conference with the winless start to this season and you have plenty of reasons for dismissal.
As noted above, Central Connecticut gets off the schneid with a win over Robert Morris. Meanwhile, it took overtime, but St. Mary's stays perfect with a win over San Francisco. Three matches each to go for a showdown between unbeaten Portland and SMC with the West Coast Conference title on the line. PERFECT, SO FAR (1) 7. Saint Mary’s – 14-0-0 UNBEATEN, BUT TIED (1) 15. Portland – 10-0-3 WINLESS, No one!!!
Men's soccer final: (8) Saint Mary's 1, (102) San Diego 1 (2OT) https://t.co/uidrIFBtd6— RPI Update (@RpiUpdate) October 27, 2018
Well, there will be no matchup of undefeated teams. And there will be no team going unbeaten and untied, extending a streak that goes back to Howard in 1974. As noted above, No. 7 Saint Mary's tied San Diego 1-1. That keeps them unbeaten (14-0-1) but not perfect. That leaves them the lone unbeaten team as Portland went on the road and fell to San Francisco 2-1.
So, pour one out for Saint Mary's, which is still undefeated but has seen their season end after falling in PKs following a scoreless draw with Stanford. The Gaels finish 18-0-2 and went 4-0-1 against the Top 40. They're the first team to finish the season undefeated and not in the College Cup since New Mexico in 2011 went 18-0-4 and also fell in the Sweet 16 in PKs.
Wait a minute. I detect a pulse. ...still alive and kicking: http://www.krwg.org/post/house-demo...2N8msWfPvlKDdDFaHX6Z927zlSHGn6hbtwerv50ttFPaY
