This does have an effect on American players. MLS imports doing well abroad helps justify teams buying all players from the MLS. Personally I'm not really into it following Almiron, but I hope he does well. Seems like a nice guy.
I'm a USMNT fan, and I also care about our domestic league. When players have come through our league and moved to a higher level (especially when they had the highest transfer fee from MLS by miles) I'm always interested in following how they do. It helps give comparison to the quality, or lack thereof, of MLS as it continues to grow. I even check up on Cyle Larin and Fabian Castillo from time to time, as they were players who I liked while they were in MLS.
I don't think it's just boomers like you but lots of nubes that have never really watched soccer outside of the world cup. The Nats aren't a club team. Folks need to take that energy and put it into an everyday club... any club. If everyone did that maybe the Nats boards wouldn't be such a shitshow.
He def does seem like a nice guy. His dry spell probably helped add to the allure. I hope he does well and can speak of the bonus of having played in MLS.
Um... I mean, it's kind self-evident, but it's likely because he's on a team with a USMNT player and has played in (and was very successful in) the USMNT's domestic league, so many people are aware of him? (and, of course, these threads are not restricted to USMNT fans, though Lou clearly is.)
This, and I just genuinely enjoy his style of play. He’s an pacy, entertaining, and hardworking player, what’s not to like.
https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/newcastle-uniteds-deandre-yedlin-jetro-17577972 "Newcastle United stars DeAndre Yedlin and Jetro Willems thrilled youngsters at a Tyneside school after they made a surprise visit during a fitness session. Yedlin said: "It is really good to be back in Byker and to see how the foundation’s partnership with Byker Community Trust has grown since the last time I was here in early 2019. "It is great to see how opportunities are making a big difference to the people living here, from kids to adults and families. It has a really amazing impact."
So, the problem with the Nats board is too much energy from those who care about the Nats above all? lol.
Too many posters with a limited view and understanding of the game channeling everything they have into a team that might play 12 games a year.
Now I see. It’s that only club soccer fans have a full understanding of the game. I would be interested in learning what are some of the key insights that club soccer fandom has given you wrt the USMNT. Perhaps the importance of the regista? The two biggest discussion items are Berhalter’s - desire for attractive soccer via regista - alleged preference for MLS players how does having any club allegiance affect these discussions?
its interesting that a subset of fans may prefer that yedlin’s team does better when he’s out of the lineup due to injury even if there are no other USMNT players on it. perhaps that’s the sophistication that USMNT-primary fans lack.
Also interesting that one may watch a team most weeks but suddenly wish them to do worse because one player is out of the lineup. No wrong way to be a fan, though.
That’s what happens when I’m a USMNT fan rather than a NUFC one. When our player leaves, I’ll stop following. this is YA section rather than the NUFC one. do you also root for Chelsea to do well with Pulisic out?
