This weekend he had chances and looked quite pedestrian. He did not score nor did he really bring a lot. He is very fast with the ball but in the final third he is not outstanding. I would not say he is not EPL quality but he has not shown what he did in MLS. You b the judge.
Even in MLS, Almiron underperformed xG pretty significantly. He just played on an Atlanta team that created a ton of chances because they were really good, combined with the overall lack of quality in MLS defenses. Now he's on a shitty Newcastle team where chances are at a premium and, more importantly, where defenders allow attackers much, much less space, so he looks overmatched. There's also the chance, that 2018 was just a fluke season. Or, more accurately, that the first half of 2018 was. He had 6 goals and 6 assists in the first 9 games of the season. It took him 17 games to get those same numbers to close the season. Like, those are good stats, but they aren't $25 million good.
So, how does that make DY look. When he plays, big names come down his side and quickly go to the other side. He may not be sexy, but no-one wants to test his side. Also, being on a side like NUFC, he gets lots of opportunities to be what he is. IMHO, I think he is quite good. Training with his side weekly, he is a worker bee. Thrown in with the NATS, he doesn't have enough time to adjust. But if you need steady, weekly trained, he is that. If Almiron is worth $25 mill, DY is gonna be a wealthy young man.
Joe Max-Moore scored something like 5 goals in his first 5 games at Everton. Joe-Max Moore then returned to form and scored once in a while...
You don't get to change your name from Joe-Max Moore to Joe Max-Moore if you don't own a castle or are an EPL superstar. It's in the Magna Carta.
Dude was born in Tulsa, was part of an Okie migration west, following the footsteps of the Joads. (I think there's a Dorthea Lange photo of him someplace.) Grew up in the barrios of Mission Viejo, playing barefoot pick-up with a ball made of ripped Rainbow soles wrapped around a core of sex wax on the beach at Dana Point. He had to go state school, for heaven's sake!
It'd be interesting to reveal how many of our guys are from a middle-class background and how many from lower-middle or working class.
Usually not too hard to tell. Hometown + HS + parents bio usually gives you a sense. And college choices can suggest as well. Joe MM's dad was in oil, moved from Tulsa to OC, kid went to M. Viejo HS and UCLA... that's usually not an economically challenged bio.
Agudelo comes from a wealthy family as well. Perhaps that is why he never forced himself to improve. After he took the money from Stoke he just vacationed for a whole year.
Hey folks - not an Almiron thread or an income level discussion thread - let’s see if we can excavate the topic.
Starts: TEAM NEWSHere's how Newcastle United line up for this afternoon's @premierleague clash against @WestHam at the London Stadium. #NUFC pic.twitter.com/6vikoSYJBi— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) November 2, 2019
I was watching Brooks, but there's this: That is some hairstyle on Yedlin there. #nufc— Newyorkmagpie (@newyorkmagpie) November 2, 2019 And this... 25mins: Snodgrass whips in a corner but Joelinton gets an important defensive flick on it. Saint-Maximin attacks down the left, shifts it to Almiron on the right, but eventually Yedlin's cross gives it away. #whufc fans getting very restless already #nufc— Chris Waugh (@ChrisDHWaugh) November 2, 2019 #nufc are targeting #whufc's full-backs. Yedlin, Saint-Maximin & Almiron repeatedly getting in behind Cresswell & Zabaleta, who they are consistently beating for pace. Diop & Balbuena being exposed as a result.— Chris Waugh (@ChrisDHWaugh) November 2, 2019 Maybe I'lll put it on while Wofs are in the locker.
It was 3-0 then Wham got one back at 73' and the absolute certainty among NUFC fans on twitter that NUFC are now going to lose is sad and hysterical all at the same time...
Yikes... 90' - GOAL - West Ham United 2 (Robert Snodgrass) Newcastle United 3 #NUFC— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) November 2, 2019
NUFC did their best Chelski impersonation, but held on to win... Tre punti d’oro su un campo sempre difficile, vittoria per 3-2 con sofferenza finale! Nota di merito per Shelvey che risponde con una grande prestazione alle tante critiche dell’ultimo periodo. #NUFC pic.twitter.com/i2me3AtlsQ— Italy Magpies (@ITMagpies) November 2, 2019
thats a big win for newcastle, who still have a lot of surprisingly uninspiring players. Survival will once again be the measure of success. It shouldnt be that way for these guys
what needs to be judged? he was bought by an epl team, loaned to another where he played regularly for a year. bought by a second. has played regularly (including one in the colaship) for three seasons in the epl for them. what grey area is there? dump on the guy all you want but he is, in fact, an epl level player. as shown by playing four years in the epl now. says so right there on his paycheck.
