Yedlin has many positives, they just aren't "hanging with the best of the PL positives" (most of the time - though how quickly the NUFC faithful forget the Miracle of Citeh!) I leave you with my favorite DY criticism/analysis (of many - today was his worst-reviewed game in a loooong time... for any masochists out there do a twitter search of "NUFC Yedlin" and read a few dozen... ouch!) Yedlin’s had a few last night, worst game in a B+W shirt. 3am he told the hooker he was too full after the doner shish mix. Guaranteed.— FIN NUFC⚽️ (@nickfinley74) February 11, 2019
I've sat through many NUFC/Yedlin games. He sometimes looks pretty good. Other times, not so much. He can cross a ball, but don't ask him to create or try to dribble through anybody. That was very evident yesterday. He has had games where he locked down some of the best, IMHO. Aguero changed sides twice last year. So did Sanchez when at Arsenal. But he does fall for the cheesy shoulder fake. He has recovery speed, but that won't last forever. His glaring deficiency is his lack of a shot. Yesterday was proof again of that. As the announcer said, "swing and a miss". I'm sure NUFC could do better, but they don't play Mannquillo anymore, unless trying to hang on to a point lead in the last few minutes. Every year they stay up, Yedlin's tenure gets a little more fragile.
for a starter in the primer league, i'm continually amazed at his lack of hip fluidity. he is an excellent straight line runner. great pace. but, he struggles to turn in tight spaces. perhaps a (one) reason why he lacks a lot of technical ability.
He showed that tightness in spades the one time he was skinned so easily letting the attacker get to the endline allowing him to dangerously slide the ball back to the top of the six. The other time where he looked exceptionally tight was when he tried a side volley clearance and clumsily whiffed. It is one thing if you are trying to put one of those on goal and you hit low on the ball and it goes into the stands but it is another when you don't even make contact. Especially on a clearance where all you are trying to do is make contact. As the announcer said, "that is what they call in America a swing and a miss".
That wasn't a clearance, that was in Wolves box and he was trying an acrobatic side volley as a strike on goal. The rest still applies, though.
The other rightback is far worse than Yedlin correct? And I imagine the reserve RB is on loan or in the academy? Hopefully Yedlin rebounds. I'd really hate for the club to get ideas of ambition and bring on a new RB this summer.
If I were the club, that wouldn't necessarily be top on my list of priorities for the summer. They need a new goalkeeper, another striker, and some midfield cover before they need a new rightback.
interesting match on many levels: DY had horrible first half DY had a so so second half .. he is just so hit and miss bummer final play by the keeper - should have punched it I don't understand why so much time beyond the 4 mins There is no delay in play during extra time so why did ref not stop it at 4 min? could also have argued that keeper was interfered with but he has to clear that ball regardless on the bright side - Almiron looked great as soon as he came on ... I think it was a great signing by the Toons.
Geordie, Mackem & Smoggie are rapidly evolving from being just dialects to becoming a completely new language unintelligible for standard English speakers.
Jesus Doner shish is just a Doner kebob. It's not that hard to understand. He's implying Yedlin was out on the town the night before eating street meat with a skank. Sending my invoice now.
Actually I was sort of joking but truth is, the dialectal English in that area has preserved much more from þe Olde Englisc than the rest of the English-speaking world, to the point that reading Beda in the Geordie dialect sounds much better than trying to read it using BBC English.
Almiron speed can't be dealt with and he hits the post. Rebound off the post by Kennedy. Newcastle very lively.
Red to Tommy Smith capt. of Huddersfield for almost breaking Almiron's ankle. Previous play was DY going across the whole back line to snuff out a breakaway. Alison and the young center mid Longsomething have changed this team...this week.
Beat me to it. They look a lot different today. could be the opposition. Btw, the Longstaff guy is what I hope Keaton Parks becomes or is, as I have only seen small doses.
Watched the 2nd half. If NUFC could play bottom-league teams with 10 men every week they might win the league. They looked deceptively composed and skilled. But 3 pts is 3 pts. Nice little post-Xmas run.
