Big, as in massive and utterly devoted local fanbase. In terms of trophies, not so much, and certainly nothing recent. Their last league title was 90 years ago and their last F.A. Cup was in 1955, though they did pick up a few meaningless European trophies (the Fairs Cup, the Inter-Toto Cup, etc.).

Huge support in a depressed, post-industrial city with low wages, means that the fanbase doesn't generate as much revenue as other clubs and the local and multi-national sponsorships aren't there either.

Just joking (Welsh supposed comes from either/both an old Germanic word that meant "foreigner/Roman/Celt" and/or an old English word that means "foreigner/slave.") The irony is that Cymru - the "Welsh" word for the Welsh supposedly means "fellow countryman." So it is, as ever, all about your perspective...)

In short, at least it's not Sunderland.

Or as a Geordie would say, about his dismal city and sad life, "at least ain't no Mackem."

And he'd be right. It can always get worse.

Yeah it's quite intriguing as he was among the 90s best strikers but he went to Newcastle instead of United. Yet, still became the PL's top scorer. Pretty damn impressive despite the club not bringing him trophies.

He’s from Newcastle so he really wanted to play for his team! You might have the wrong idea as Newcastle is a pretty big club.

1-1 at the HT. As noted DY with assist of the NUFC goal. Not really watching so I won't bother with game day thread.

Newcastle pull off the win! Yeds notches an assist and was tied for second best at 7.6 on FotMob.

Edit: whoops, score was 2-1 Newcastle

Nice awareness on what was going on. Drops back to receive and while ball is coming to his feet he is setting up to catch that near post run. Simple and well played.
    Good job Yedlin!

Yep, with Wes as a sub, Puli not really shining, Wood injured/tired, Chandler recovering on the bench, and Johnson virtually retired, "Yedders" is the Yank Abroad of the Month (YAM) no doubt.

Gotta give it to him with NUFC clawing their way to survival with him cruising the wing, but MM is having a perfectly decent month too- without grabbing anyone's bar snacks. So that's good. And Mckinnie got to come in 3rd I guess... just by virtue of actually playing a bit.
