Dude, that's Uncle Lamar! Builder of Crew Stadium and Uncle Lamar's house of WHoopass in Frisco Texas. The great Lamar Hunt, coiner of the term "Super Bowl, conqueror of the NFL and patron saint of Soccer Nerds.
I've never seen a picture of him.........thanks! He was standing in front of my seat (I was down in front) and I was chatting with him before the game. The guys ushering him around were talking on their radios. He said "beautiful night for a game" to me, and I said "beautiful night to beat Mexico" back. He laughed, said something about the full house, and gave an "enjoy the game" as he got pulled away. Nice guy.....I figured he was someone with connections.
Natalia Steingard or something like that. A Spain-born Venezula-living telenovela actress. Telemundo is currently running a series of hers.
Now that the topic seems to have moved away from the actual on field action... I wonder if one of you guys will mail a t-shirt to Donovan that says, "MEXICO SUCKS"... Of course, here is an alternative.
He doesn't have a whole lot of time left. If you live in KC, you rejoice that he's no longer operating your team. If you live in Columbus you just wait a year or two until his son puts your team up for sale (yes Columbus... you're next. Sorry.) That being said, the guy is one of the main reasons US soccer is where it is today... so as a US Soccer fan, you mourn his passing and you hope his son can continue to impact the sport (positively) in the future.
Hard to say. He looks a whole lot better than he did this time last year. I'm not sure we in KC should rejoice, nor am I sure Columbus fans will be upset. Lamar is a fan. Clark is a businessman. Lamar really does love the Wizards best. Without Lamar, the Wizards would've moved five or six years ago. Without Lamar, the Wizards would've been sold to an out of town group. Without Lamar, our best hope in KC would be move now - expand later. With Lamar, it looks like we get to keep our team. Likewise, Columbus fans will almost certainly be happy to have new owners, as nobody could possibly be cheaper than Uncle Lamar. But yeah, Columbus will be sold at some point. Clark is a businessman. It looks like Danny is becoming one. Lamar Jr is out of the picture at this point. One of the theories is that the Crew won't be sold, but when Lamar dies - or stops being involved day to day - that Clark will be the owner/operator of either Dallas or Columbus, and Danny will get the other team. I think Clark is 39 and Danny is somewhere around 27. They should both be around for a long time to come. But nowhere near as long as Lamar's legacy.
US soccer needs a chick like this that can pose for Maxium and FHM, it would give the sport nice exposure. Side note: KC has had pathetic fan support since their inception. 2 MLS cups and some pretty solid teams to boot.
no but im sure the fans that do show up are passionate but even when MLS was averaging 25k a game KC was the place that had oceans of empty plastic seats. Its not like its a looseing team, so you dont have the metrostars excuse. Toronto Wizards?
wow, that's just perfect, if only it was Borgetti (who, I'd like to point out, has always been a classy player...IIRC the only Mexican player to exchange jerseys after the WC game...don't know why he's getting such a bad rap on these boards)
