Is there any word on Alcala going to Mexico for his club team? I'm surprised he hasn't joined LAFC by now.
He seems to be quite comfortable with the Stockton Rebels, based on his social media posts. I agree I'm surprised he hasn't joined someplace more prominent, though it is likely only a matter of time.
The article is from a month ago, but it should be noted that Andrew Araya of PDA was called with Chile U15. http://mail.anfp.cl/noticia/32210/l...bajos-de-cara-al-sudamericano-del-proximo-ano His profile of the USSDA indicates that he has a United States nationality. http://plda.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?team=7404596&player=517737229
'04 Miami-born Boca Juniors academy forward Cameron Johnson was at a Costa Rica YNT camp this month. His mother is from Costa Rica.
This one has slipped under our radar for a while, but '01 Miami-born FC Dallas forward Kameron Lacey was called up to Jamaica U17s last year and U20s this year. He played against the US in the U20 invitational tournament in September.
Kameron Lacey moved to the Orlando City academy. http://ocsc.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?team=7550576&player=542376299
It was probably only a matter of time, but former FC Dallas academy player Niko Hamalainen has been called to the Finland senior team. Huuhkajat kohtaa Ruotsin 8.1. ja Viron 11.1. '01 RSL homegrown forward Julian Vazquez, who has one US U18 callup and multiple Mexico U18 callups, is inclined to go for Mexico as long as they're interested. Some prospects are clearly interested in following what's happening in US Soccer and presumably for representing them (e.g., Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Ralph Orquin), others view the US pretty much only as a fallback but are still interested to a small degree (Folarin Balogun), others have zero interest in the US and are strongly for another country (Santiago Munoz). Vazquez falls into that middle category, it seems.

Whatever the case, they're all 97s or younger (including an '00, interestingly) so it's effectively a pre-Olympic camp.
So ... are we going to have a U23 camp? Is it necessary yet or can we wait until U20 WC is over since there may be a lot of overlap?
#U18 | Head Coach, Mario Arteaga, called up his squad for this week’s training camp! 🇲🇽⚽#PasiónyOrgullo pic.twitter.com/379gZYQerx— Mexican National Team (@miseleccionmxEN) January 29, 2019 Sebastian Medina and Julian Vazquez with Mexico U18. A little surprising that Hector Holguin is absent. He's still starting regularly for Santos youth and this Mexico U18 roster has four other Santos players. #U15 | This is the complete team sheet called up to camp this week!! 👦🏻🇲🇽⚽️#PasiónyOrgullo pic.twitter.com/kbdhWYKex0— Mexican National Team (@miseleccionmxEN) January 29, 2019 Alex Alcala and Donovan Palomares with Mexico U15. No Abel Salazar, who was cut from the previous camp.
The FC Dallas U18-U19s drew the Mexico U18s 2-2. The FC Dallas U16-U17s downed Mexico U15s by a score of 3-1. Yikes! And Mexico used American-bred players in both matches.
Do we know if it was the FC Dallas U-16's or U-17's? They are two separate teams. The U-16's don't play in the DA, but do tend to have some good players.
#U15 | FT | Intense match but we didn’t get the W this morning. 👟 Attempts: 12🎯 On target: 6⛳️ Corners: 2🚩 Offsides: 1😷 Fouls Committed: 5 🤕 Fouls Against: 9📒 Yellow Cards: 0⚽️ Oswaldo Flores #PasiónyOrgullo pic.twitter.com/9j2EgEWR5w— Mexican National Team (@miseleccionmxEN) February 1, 2019 It may have been just FCD U-16 then. The Mexico Twitter feed said the FCD team that beat Mexico U15s (2004s plus 2005 Alcala) was made of 2003s.
I haven't seen a lineup anywhere for this game. I think it was the FCD U17s, but the U17s in name only. Many of the best U17s were "playing up" with the U19s in this trip (Pepi, Lateyf, Carrera, Sealy, Redzic, Rodriguez, etc.). So this is presumably the younger U17s without its best players like Pepi. The FCD U15s didn't make this trip as they were just at that Tahuichi tournament in Bolivia. So its not them. Either way, the comments section in that twitter post is amusing as the Mexico fans try to come to grips with the result.
Yup, it seems the FCD team that drew the Mexico U18s was almost more of a U17 team than U18-U19, and ones who beat the Mexico U15s were a U17 B team, apparently mostly 2003s, just one year older than the 2004 Mexico U15s. Also, the older team was missing their left back Hinojosa, currently in camp with the US U18s (ironically a former Mexico U18 player).
