Carlos Avilez back into camp with Mexico U20s: https://miseleccion.mx/la-snm-sub-20-se-enfrentara-brasil-japon-car/
Shrug. I think its possible that Balogun was honest with the USSF. That he told them he's provisionally cap-tied to England, and that's his "Plan A." Then the US decided to invite him to the meaningless tournament anyway. Just as a way to confirm their future interest. Just a recruiting trip. And there really was nothing to lose for Balogun to attend the event and gain experience. I'm with @Ger90 on this one. There's very little chance that the kid uses his one-time switch right now to play for the US in this cycle's U20 events (or even the upcoming Olympic qualifying cycle).
Abraham Romero, Alex Zendejas, and Ivan Gutierrez all left off the latest Mexico U21 squad. And Edwin Lara and Antonio Nava left off the Mexico U20s. All of them have been playing regularly in the 2018 Apertura at some level except Gutierrez (who has some history of injuries), so I don't think it's due to injury for most of them.
'01 Irish U19 central defender Oisin McEntee has played every minute for Newcastle U18 squad this year. McEntee was born in New York and is eligible to play for the US, but would need to file a one-time switch. His competitive record in UEFA with the U17s: https://www.uefa.com/under17/season=2018/teams/player=250108997/index.html
Niko Hamalainen started for Finland U21 in a loss to Denmark in a 2019 Euro qualifying match. He's still very much in their plans and is provisionally cap-tied, and as a young left back, is not likely to suddenly be left out of them.
For whatever it's worth, Edwin Lara now has a US but not Mexico flag in his Instagram bio and has Pulisic and Weah among his most recent follow choices. He likely won't be switching back soon, as he's provisionally cap-tied, but he obviously feels partially American and it can't be lost on him that Mexico has not called him up in a while.
It's a moot point till he starts getting first-team minutes somewhere. That said, I'd take him back in a heartbeat.
Another party I'm presumably late to, but it looks like Jonathan Klinsmann accepted a callup to a Germany youth camp. https://www.socceramerica.com/publi...an-klinsmann-former-us-u-20-attends-germ.html
While I don't really care about losing him, can federations do this with cap-tied players, even provisional ones?
Sure. We even called up Julian Green to a full USMNT camp to help him make a decision on whether to switch. A recruiting exercise.
since no one's done it for the German-Americans at the last Internationals or recent. 97-Klinsmann as posted above was in a U15-U20 GK camp this week 98-Sidney Friede wasn't called up anywhere as he's been injured for awhile 99-Timothy Tillman made the "on call" list for the German U20s, plenty of players made that list. My guess is that he and the others wanted to focus on their club football over meaningless games. During that time he played friendlies with the 1st team of FCN. Although was later on sent to FCNII to get match practice over roting on the bench. 00-Maurice Malone scored 1 in 2 games and played 128 minutes for the German U19. 01-U18s DNP in Sept 02-Played 3 games in U17 a 4 tournament friendly. -Rumored German-American Christopher Scott played 3/3 games and something like 140 minutes. -Malik Tillman played 3/3 games and what amounted to 215 minutes as well as captaining the the team in the last game in a 2-2 draw vs Italy were we lead 2-0 until throwing the game and the defense sleeping to tie it 2-2. Draw meant Germany U17 ended up 2nd while Italy's last minute goal meant they won the tournament friendly.
Ricardo Pepi of FC Dallas, who has been in camp with the US U16s, has been called up for the Mexico U16s: https://miseleccion.mx/la-seleccion-nacional-mexico-sub-16-inicio-concentracion-2/
Also Fernando Alvarez of Pachuca, who has one callup with the US U14s but has since been a Mexico U16 regular.
Pepi needs to make a choice. None of this switching every month. He's not good enough that he can hold up both programs. Its not just Pepi either. I dislike when any players do this. Barragan did this earlier in the cycle.
1044403779100184577 is not a valid tweet id '02 Santos Laguna forward Santiago Munoz was a late callup to Mexico U17s, his first international callup. He wasn't initially listed on the roster. His Instagram confirms he's already training with them.
I tend to be a little more liberal on this when the kids are this age. If Pepi wants to try out both teams, let him find what suits him best and then decide by U20 if he is still getting call ups. I think Pepi should be more frustrated with FCD and the fact they are playing Rezdic and Sealy on the 19s over him and he is clearly better than both of them. As long as the US keeps calling him to US camps, they have done their duty.
We shouldn't let teenage players jump back and forth between countries. Neither should other countries. They should go first.
Yup. And if a kid is going to jump back and forth to gauge where he fits best, the U16s is a fine group to do it with. This isn't the U17s or U20s that are preparing for important tournaments. These are "casting the net" teams. I mean, Pepi is a 2003. He's a young'un (even though his physical stature makes him appear older than that). My gut feeling is that by the end of the season, Pepi will have gotten playing time with the U19s. When the FCD USL team starts up in the spring (presumably), the whole pack is going to be shuffled. Some of the older forwards like Johan Gomez and Gibran Rayo will see time with the D3 team............leading to openings on a week to week basis for Pepi on the U19s.
Santiago Munoz scored for Mexico U17, with Efrain Alvarez captaining the side. #U17 | 🧑🏻⚽️🇲🇽 5-0 Faraones G⚽️⚽️⚽️L!! @santi_mr10 shows us what he can do and scores a stunner!! #PasiónyOrgullo pic.twitter.com/ZRUkVfHCqX— Mexican National Team (@miseleccionmxEN) September 27, 2018
00-Giona Leibold was called up for a U19 perspective course. No U19 regular or even semi-regular player is part of this course. No games in Oct. 02-Malik Tillman and Christopher Scott make the U17 squad that will play double friendlies vs Denmark.
