There's also Sebastian Medina of Atlas in that '01 Mexico squad. The good news it is missing Uly Llanez of LA Galaxy (was at the USYNT summit camp), Eduardo Blancas of LA Galaxy, and Gibran Rayo and Julian Hinojosa both of FC Dallas. Hinojosa is one I've been keeping an eye on, as he's a left back who had been a fairly regular USYNT callup before flipping to Mexico in late 2016. He's not in this squad.
Definitely Llanez, those others you named are not so great, IMO. I'd be worried more if they called in Ochoa, Araujo, Toledo, Sepulveda, Rivas, etc. I'm not exactly sure any of those hispanic players heritage is from Mexico, so maybe they aren't even being considered.
Carlos Avilez not currently at FCD pre-season training, because................. 955644941052600320 is not a valid tweet id
Joining Avilez in the Mexico U20 camp is Edwin Lara. His first El Tri callup in over a year.
The original '99 USYNT U14 group now has four El Tri players: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/03/17/14/02/u14-boys-national-team-domestic-camp GOALKEEPERS (4): Carlos Avilez (FC Dallas; Dallas, Texas), Ethan Koehler (New York Red Bulls; Maplewood, N.J.), Eric Lopez (LA Galaxy; Westminster, Calif.), Carson Williams (Dallas Texans; Plano, Texas) DEFENDERS (11): Tyler Adams (New York Red Bulls; Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), Vincent Borden (Dinamo Zagreb, Ithaca N.Y.), Bekele Dowty (Blackhills FC; Olympia, Wash.), Christopher Grey (De Anza Force; San Jose, Calif.), Kyle Gruno (PDA; Saddle River, N.J.), Edwin Lara (Alliance SC; San Leandro, Calif.), Antonio Nava (De Anza Force; Redwood City, Calif.), Matthew Real (FC DELCO; Drexel Hill, Pa.), Ben Silverstein (New York Red Bulls; Weston, Conn.), Cody Sundquist (Placer United; Lincoln, Calif.), Samuel Vines (Pride SC; Colorado Springs, Colo.) MIDFIELDERS (13): Ateno Ajeakwa (LA Galaxy; Gardena, Calif.), Paolo Belloni (Weston FC; Delray Beach, Fla.), Omar Beltran (Dallas Texans; Garland, Texas), Joseph Brito (Oakwood SC; Bolton, Conn.), Jose Carranza (NVSC; Manassas, Va.), Martin De Leon (MN Thunder Academy; Brooklyn Center, Minn.), Christopher Goslin (UFA Elite; Locust Grove, Ga.), Roberto Hernandez (Texas Rush; Houston, Texas), Milan Iloski (San Diego Surf, Escondido, Calif.), Jommar Reyes (Houston Dynamo; Houston, Texas) Jake Silverstein (New York Red Bulls; Weston, Conn.), Nicholas Taitague (FC Richmond Magic; Midlothian, Va.), Juan Torres (GSA; Lilburn, Ga.) FORWARDS (7): Lucas Del Rosario (CASL; Durham, N.C.), Omir Fernandez (BW Gottschee; New York, N.Y.), Jonathan Gonzalez (Atletico Santa Rosa; Santa Rosa, Calif.), Jeanpaul Marin (Downtown United SC; Rego Park, N.Y.), Jose Ortiz (LA Galaxy; Hawaiian Gardens, Calif.), Daniel Sanchez (Tecos Hayward Club; Hayward, Calif.), Adolfo Trujillo (Ballistic United; Livermore, Calif.)
I'm almost certain that Eric Lopez has turned down El Tri callups to this point. He has a dozen professional starts under his belt and certainly a better resume than Avilez to this point. Avilez has only been playing in the DA or sitting on the bench (if even making the squad) for OKC Energy, yet he's the #1 for Mexico's '99s. And we know both LAG and FCD are well-scouted by Mexico; they can't have overlooked Lopez. Proud to be both an 🇺🇸 and 🇲🇽 It’s always a high honor to represent the country I was born in! 🔴⚪️🔵 #adidasfootball #u20mnt pic.twitter.com/LI19X61cuA— Eric Lopez (@EricLopezGK) January 14, 2018
I don't think most FCD fans even know if Avilez is any good. He was good in the development academy. There are 4 keepers on FCDs pre-season training roster: Gonzalez, Maurer, Avilez, and former FCD academy player Pollo Cortes. Cortes is out of contract, and Avilez is on a USL contract. But what's happening with Avilez if they choose not to sign him to a homegrown MLS deal? As I said in another thread, FCD's developmental roster is full. Back to OKC? Don't know................................. Would it stun me if Avilez heads to Mexico like Abraham Romero? No.
Speaking of Lopez, he's featured on Bill Reno's "Five U20 Goalkeepers Worth Remembering." Here's the bit about Eric: Lopez has quietly risen to prominence out west. While a number of his peers are in Europe, Lopez shows us that the US can still develop their own goalkeepers. Lopez, who turns 19 in March, has a good frame and moves well in the box. He's shown positive strides in his 1v1 approach and continues to fight for time in a highly competitive environment with LAG2. If Lopez continues to round out his game, he'll be fighting for playing time against Zack Steffen and Ethan Horvath soon enough. https://www.everybodysoccer.com/even-the-goalkeepers-like-to/2018/1/21/six
Confirmed: Former US youth international Jonathan Gonzalez has received his one-time switch from FIFA to be able to play for the Mexican national team.Expecting him to be in the squad to face Bosnia next Wednesday in San Antonio. #eltrieng https://t.co/RPw5m4UU6L— Tom Marshall (@mexicoworldcup) January 24, 2018
Ooooof. Can we all agree to not fill up yet another thread with a Jonathan Gonzalez bitch-fest? [I'm not targeting this at you. Its just that I like these youth boards because the posters keep endless mindless circular arguments and bitch-fests to a minimum. Long may it continue...........................]
Hey, you won't get any bitching out of me. I just posted it for information and Jona is now officially a Yank on a foreign NT.
Did Avilez ever go to OKC? I thought he just continued to play DA games and that Dallas just used the OKC affiliation as a legal justification to sign an academy player to a USL contract, since they obviously don't have their own team.

Probably better in this thread, since it's a full NT call-up and this is for YNT call-ups: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/yanks-on-foreign-nts-r.1974275
Sources tell me '00 midfielder John Murphy is with Ireland YNT in Dublin this week. His time with the #usynt has been criminally limited.— Joey (@USAprospects) February 2, 2018
I'm pretty sure he's a #6. Tough position to break into in the '00 age group, but he should've gotten more call ups.
We've moved from "Snubs!" to allegations of criminality. Truly, 2018 has been one hell of a year so far.
good couple days here in Ireland.. hope to be back soon 🇮🇪⚽️ pic.twitter.com/J5QPmFZ5Y6— john murphy (@johnny_futbol8) February 3, 2018
'98 England U21 and Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold is a Yank, according to these two articles. Mother's side of the family is American. Goes without saying it's highly unlikely he'll ever represent the US. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/06/sports/soccer/liverpool-alexander-arnold.html http://thecomeback.com/soccer/trent-alexander-arnold-mom-gets-jurgen-klopp-play.html
Unless his Mom was born in the US I don't see how he is eligible, I am assuming they are insinuating that the grandmother married an American or at least had kids in America but you never know.
It's hard to say based on the info we have found so far, but we know his grandmother moved to the US and got married. It's easy to assume that his mother was born in the US and spent enough time to qualify her to pass on citizenship to her son. We also know that he has a lot of American relatives. I'd say it's heavily circumstantial right now, especially based on the English tendency to think that one Granny is enough for US citizenship. I'm not fully convinced yet, but there's something there worth digging into.
