When is Mexico going to have their next U20 camp? I want to monitor how much Edwin Lara gets called up and plays.

Lara seems to be in a weird spot. Lots of callups. Little game action.
Does anybody really have an idea of how his development is going?

Our new youth mega-camp has, by my count, NINE players who have been Yanks on Foreign YNTs at some point!
    https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...it-brings-153-players-together-in-single-camp

'02 DF Michael Barragan, was with Mexico U15s (their '02s, including Efrain Alvarez) just a few months ago. This is his first US camp.

'00 DF Sergino Dest, represented Netherlands at U15 and is provisionally cap-tied to the US.

'01 FW Jalen Hawkins, represented Germany at U15. Note '01 FW Justin Butler is also now with the US but hadn't been called up by the DFB. This is their first US camp; well done by the USSF to bring in these two and Barragan.

'01 DF Ian Hoffmann, represented Germany at U16 and U17.

'01 FW Ulysses Llanez, represented Mexico at U16.

'99 FW Justin McMaster, represented Jamaica at U15 and U17, and is provisionally cap-tied to them.

'01 GK David Ochoa, represented Mexico at U16.

'99 FW Nebiyou Perry, represented Sweden at U17 and U18 and is provisionally cap-tied to them.

'99 MF Noah Verhoeven, represented Canada at U15.

I'd love to get a scouts' take (or someone who's actually seen him play a lot recently) whether we should actually be upset about that. Its been so long since I've seen him play that I have no clue where his game is at.

Gary Kleiban is really enjoying the news of Gonzalez' departure.

There are few people in the US soccer community that I dislike more than Gary Kleiban. I just find his behavior revolting.

Uly Llanez and Alex Mendez weren't selected to the US U17 squad. So what? Clint Dempsey wasn't selected for the U17 squad. Weston McKennie, Keaton Parks, and countless others weren't selected for U17 squads.

Its one thing for fans to make too big of a deal out of U17 and U20 roster selections. Its what we do. We're not supposed to be rational. Coaches and administrators should know better.

I can understand why a player might not be sure which NT they'd play for, but I don't think accepting a call up to one right after you accepted a call up from another reflects all that well, and I don't suspect USSF will be happy with that player.

Since he'd attended Mexico camps before joining the U.S., it's hard for me to believe the U.S. was trying to be the bad cop here. I'm sure they're disappointed, but I imagine it was a calculated risk and they were going for a soft sell. At worst they've built a potential bridge that could be revisited down the line.

It depends what the situation is for the player. Maybe he's now decided on playing for Mexico. If thats the case, its not really an issue, but if the player is setting on the fence, and is going to continue to do this, I can't think either federation would like that.

If you're saying that countries would rather that players play for them than for other countries, then I have to admit you may be right. But since both Mexico and the U.S. called up Barragan after he played with the U.S. and Mexico, respectively, then it seems to be an inconvenience both Mexico and the U.S. are willing to live with, at least for the time being.

Yup. It seems both nations are giving a recruiting pitch at these camps, and then he'll have to decide pretty soon which one he'll move forward with. Fine with me.
