Why'd I post this here? Well, because I searched and saw you guys were talking about the Salvadoran Americans and thought it was relevant.

    Question for everyone here

After Delagarza, what other players have been capped by the full USMNT and have later gone on to play for another national team?

I can't think of another one. Will Delagarza be the first?

I put this in another thread, but here are two from the dark, confusing days of the 1950s & '60s:

Joe Gaetjens appeared for Haiti (which he played for prior to the 1950 World Cup) in a WCQ in 1953

Antonio Bonezzi played for the US in February 1961 and then Israel in December 1961, both are his only caps.

    Here's the source: http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/double-caps.html

Someone appears to have done the homework and kept it up reasonably well.

    AJDLG seems a little noncommittal:

Although he has not been called into the U.S. squad since, DeLaGarza is not closing the door on the U.S. National Team.

“I did talk to Jurgen and even after this year, I won’t be cup-tied so if something does happen then who knows?” said DeLaGarza, who will join New England Revolution midfielder Ryan Guy as MLS players that play for Guam. “But right now, I’m committed to Guam and I’ll help them.”

When DeLaGarza actually suits up for the Matao still remains to be seen. Guam’s next competitive matches will take place during their participation in the second annual Philippine Peace Cup in mid-October. However, with the Galaxy likely to be in the thick of a playoff race at that time, it is extremely unlikely that DeLaGarza will join up with his new national team until after the season is complete.

Looks like Hatifie and Mashriqi were on the South Asian Football Federation Championship winning Afghan team.

That's a great opportunity for Beitashour, since they are going to Brazil. Despite our issues at RB, he seems like a massive longshot for 2014. Of course, if you're going by FIFA rankings Iran would be top-six in CONCACAF so I don't know if he waltzes into that squad either. Perhaps somebody else can speak to their roster.

Entered the game up 2-0 in min 76. They gave up a goal in min 80, hope he wasn't involved.

Iran held on to win 2-1. Two more qualifiers in November.

Let's see how many kids in that region end up named "Steve" or "Justin."

That's really pretty amazing. In some ways I suppose it's a measure of the degree to which Nigerian soccer might not be what it used to; they have some amazing players, but while Dike is an interesting player he hasn't put together the kind of career that might attract, say, USMNT interest.

It's nevertheless cool to see an American-born player with a chance to contribute for them in a real match. They've called in American youth players regularly over the years but I'm pretty sure a WCQ cap would be a first.

He was planning to join the US U17 team earlier this year, but the USSF didn't realize he had already played in qualifying for that tournament, so he wasn't eligible for the team, even with a switch. So he went ahead and played with the Jamaicans at the CONCACAF U17 WC qualifying after it was announced he was switching allegiances. Big screw up on our part.

Without a US tournament pushing him to make the change, he is going to test his options. I'm sure this is a Klinsmann-style recruiting trip for him and the path to the 1st team is considerably shorter with Jamaica. It should be a while before the next cap-tying opportunity for Jamaica though and a starter for the Richmond Kickers seems a bit of a stretch for their NT right now.

I just thought he might want to get on the U-20 team. Guess he'll exhaust his options with Jamaica until then.....however the longer he waits to switch the more likely he will be passed by others.
