Tony's a nice story from 2016. His career never really got going because of injury and, I suppose, some other things, and he's still not exactly "made it," but he finally got something resembling steady club minutes last season and broke through for a Hex nation. Not bad. He'll be on the right side of 30 in Russia, should Panama make it through.
Eligible for two countries, Thomas McNamara still waiting for a national team call after career year https://t.co/WN50PLOSMc pic.twitter.com/LxGjpHhJ0R— GOAL USA (@GoalUSA) December 7, 2016 "I haven’t heard from anybody, from either side,” McNamara told Goal USA at Tuesday's MLS MVP ceremony honoring McNamara's teammate, David Villa. “The Irish FA just reached out to confirm my citizenship, and that was that. I haven’t heard anything since, and I haven’t heard from the American federation." As for his potential international future, McNamara isn't ready to make a decision on a national team. As things stand, he doesn't have to just yet, but if he continues to play like he did in 2016, a call — or calls — could be on the horizon. “I would love to play for both national teams,” McNamara said. “Right now I don’t have any chances, and am not thinking about this one or that one. For me, it would be an honor to represent either country, and however it works out down the road it works out.”
This may have been covered already, but evidently the scorer of the winning goal (both goals, actually) in American Samoa's epic win over Tonga has quit soccer for the gridiron. As a 17-year-old forward, he starred for his country on the national team in a November 2011 World Cup qualifying match. His 74th-minute goal gave American Samoa a 2-1 victory over Tonga — their first-ever FIFA-sanctioned victory. Luani has scored two goals in three FIFA matches — the most ever for a Samoan player. “For right now, I’m for sure done with soccer. I just want to pay attention to one thing and pursue it,” Luani told the Spokesman-Review last year. “ I just started playing football when I was a freshman (in high school) and as I went through my career, I realized I loved contact.” Without any scholarship offers after high school, Luani played a year at Chabot College in Hayward, Calif. and the City College of San Francisco before landing at WSU last season. http://www.yakimaherald.com/sports/...cle_a5738d70-b13b-11e6-ad86-bfaefec4e3ed.html He's a big dude. http://www.wsucougars.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1681

Looks like Tony Taylor will be involved with Panama for the Copa Centroamericana: The squad will continue training on Tuesday, but, by permission, Rolando Blackburn, Armando Cooper, Roderick Miller and Tony Taylor won’t join in until January 2. http://www.concacaf.com/article/panama-begins-training-for-copa-centroamericana

He started as a freshman on the Union College team that won the NJCAA III championship back in 2009.

I never understood this thread. How can you have a yank on a foreign national team? To me, they are Benedict Arnolds Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This question has been asked and answered many times over the years. For the purposes of this forum, inclusion as a Yank is based on this: do they or did they at one time have the technical/legal capacity to play for US teams. This is irrespective of whether they had the actual chance to do so and whatever decision they might have made about this issue. It's no longer open for discussion.

They lost 2-1 AET. I was mistaken. It isn't part of Copa Centroameriana which will start up soon, but the CFU playoff to determine their Gold Cup entrant. You will now be returned to your regularly scheduled programming already in progress.
Guam is apparently pulling back some aspects of its MNT program, which could affect "Amerimatao" -- a word I just made up. http://www.kuam.com/story/34151209/...soccer-team-pulled-out-of-regional-qualifiers
