Don't think Derrick Williams has been mentioned plays for on the Ireland YNT and had a few minutes for AV
Fuad Ibrahim got on the field for the final 45 in the AFCON today. Ethiopia lost their final group stage match to Nigeria 2-0, crashing out of the tourney with one point and a -6 goal differential.
New England Revolution midfielder Ryan Guy will represent Guam in next week’s AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers, which will be played in Myanmar.
Yousef Samy (Bay Area Ambassadors), Mohammad Yusef Mashriqi (former Reb Bulls reserve) and Ahmad Arash Hatifie (former UC-Davis?) all played for Afghanistan in the SAFF Championships last year. Hatifie, Mashriqi will all play in the AFC Challenge Cup Preliminaries. Fardin Shinwari is also based in the US, but it is unclear if he is a US citizen.
Mashriqi's an interesting name. He was once "linked" (I use quotes because it was reported in various places but I don't know how reliable those links were) with Real Madrid and trained with PSG.
Soony Saad had his one time switch approved and he has been called up by Lebanon for a friendly. He was born in the US and was 2008 US Development Academy Player of the Year. http://www.sportingkc.com/news/2013...-saad-selected-upcoming-international-matches
He scored in his 1st cap for Lebanon and will be staying with the team for WCQs: http://www.thedailywiz.com/2013/5/30/4382214/saad-invited-to-stay-for-world-cup-qualifiers
Isaac Brizuela, whom we just found out is a Yank, is on Mexico's preliminary roster for the Gold Cup. Richard Menjivar is on the roster for El Salvador. Haiti has a college player from UMaryland (Francois Christiano) and Belize has one from California Baptist (Michael Salazar), but they don't appear to be US citizens, though they both went to HS in the US. Rosters: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8810352/Gold Cup Roster.pdf
Miguel Ponce and Cirilo Saucedo are also in the Mexico group. Steve Purdy, Derby Carrillo, and Dustin Corea are also on the El Salvador roster. Rodney Wallace with Costa Rica.
Looks like Lebanon isn't good with FIFA paperwork as Saad isn't eligible for their WCQs: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...nsas-citys-soony-saad-will-miss-world-cup-qua Guessing that his one-time switch hadn't been approved (which means he probably shouldn't have played in the friendly either).
You are probably right and it may be some other paperwork issue with the confederation. I went by what one of the beat writers said about the one time switch. I couldn't find a competition for him on ussoccer.com, but good luck find things there without doing a lot of digging.
Mexico has announced their 23-man squad for the Gold Cup (though they will be able to swap 4 players from the original eligible list after the group stage). Yanks included (basically all the eligibles) are: Cirilo Saucedo (Tijuana) Miguel Angel Ponce (Chivas) Isaac Brizuela (Toluca) http://futbol.univision.com/copa-or...definitiva-mexico-para-copa-oro#axzz2W61Bi8wY
Final rosters for the Gold Cup are out: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8810352/FINAL GC ROSTERS.pdf Everyone has been mentioned already but El Salvador. The Yanks on the final roster are Richard Menjivar, Steve Purdy, Derby Carrillo, and Dustin Corea. Belize is bringing their UC-Riverside player along.
http://www.gohighlanders.com/roster.aspx?path=msoc Hmm, nobody named Michael or Salazar on UCR's roster from last fall.
And this would be why: http://www.gohighlanders.com/news/2013/6/10/MSOC_0610131029.aspx He is transferring in from Cal Baptist this fall.
Edward Santeliz, born in Chicago and in the US until about age 18, is getting what I think is his first cap for Guatemala against the US. He played for their U20 team in 2007 WC Qualifying.
Isaac Brizuela appeared in today's Gold Cup match against Panama, so he is now permanently tied to Mexico. This was his 1st international cap.
El Salvador has gone with a Yank-heavy lineup for tonight's Gold Cup opener: EL SALVADOR Portillo, Garcia, Turcios, Purdy, Posadas, Corea, Menjivar, Romero, Delgado, Zelaya, Burgos— FOX Sports Hub (@FOXSportsHub) July 8, 2013 Richard Menjivar, Steve Purdy and Dustin Corea all started the match.
That was a pretty darn entertaining match between El Salvador and T&T last night. El Salvador was fun to watch -- one missed opportunity might have been a goal of the tournament. (It wasn't by one of the Yanks, though.) Corea's jersey reads "Dustin" and Purdy's says "Purdy Ramos," for those who weren't watching at home...
Noticed that too. Always wondered why some players are allowed to have first names, middle names, nicknames, etc. Does FIFA have any say over those things or is it just the feds/leagues?
Here are the FIFA regs on it: IV. PLAYING EQUIPMENT 7 Players’ names 7.1 Players’ names must appear on the back of the shirt used as Playing Equipment for all Matches played in Final Competitions. Players’ names may appear on the back of the shirt used as Playing Equipment for all Matches played in Preliminary Competitions and all Preliminary Olympic Matches. 7.2 The Player’s name must correspond to the name indicated on the list of Players pursuant to the relevant Competition Regulations. Required in a tournament final, not required in qualifying. Pretty much leave the choice of name up to the fed as long as it is provided ahead of time. Call that the "Brazilian Exception." One surprise: I didn't see anything about the language required of names in a final. I would have expected to see them dictate the Roman alphabet just to prevent Greek or Cyrillic or Hangul lettering. Gotta make the tourney watchable for the Western European audience.
Miguel Angel Ponce came in at the 73rd minute during Mexico's Gold Cup match against Canada. I believe this was his senior competitive debut.
