the worst part is dest would probably be a better fit than adams for berhalters janky ass hybrid rb/cm position (that, to be clear, should never happen)
Novakovich doesn't dress today. Why? Puskas with a brace. Is Novakovich set to warm the bench this season?
Tell me what reason Dest has to accept an invitation if he would believe what he reads in threads like this about him? Fortunately he seems to be firmly with both feet on the ground and not floating up by inflated self esteem. Note: Apart from a few Ajax fans with blinders on nobody talks about Dest for Orange. Those with blinders on forget we had a few hyped Ajax backs in Oranje that went down in flames.
Pulisic wasn't that good today, but otherwise it was a good weekend for our Yanks Abroad: - Green scored; - Polster played 90 minutes for Rangers in a 0-3 win in a Cup game; - Gall played 90, had a goal and two assists making the most of his rare starting XI appearance; - Cappis played 90 and helped Hobro tie 1-1 away to the much stronger Midtjylland, while Sabbi played 87'; - Miazga and Reading had a 3-0 win vs. Cardiff. Novakovich didn't make the 18, though.
I'd like to see Green called up for Mexico/Uruguay. He's playing well and he's always stepped it up a notch for the US even when his club situation hasn't been great. Wonder what's going on with Novakovich
Since I think every league has now played at least one weekend's worth of games, here are all of the YA's who have played so far in a league match this season in a top league or for a club still competing in the Champions/Europa League: GK: Horvath - Brugge (2 starts, now benched) GK: Steffen - Fortuna Dusseldorf (start) DF: Brooks - Wolfsburg (start) DF: Dest - Ajax (1 start, 1 sub) MF: McKennie - Schalke (start) MF: Morales - Fortuna Dusseldorf (start) MF: Pulisic - Chelsea (1 start, 1 sub) MF: Boyd - Besiktas (start) FW: Weah - Lille (1 start, 1 sub) --- MF: Gall - Malmo (7 subs, 2 starts) MF: F. Johnson - BMG (sub) FW: Sargent - Werder Bremen (sub) Adams (RB Leipzig) and Yedlin (Newcastle) are the notable injury absences there. And I'm sure Chandler will play for Eintracht Frankfurt this season. And here is a list for players in the English Championship or Bundesliga 2: DF: Lichaj - Hull (3 starts) DF: Miazga - Reading (3 starts) DF; Ream - Fulham (2 starts) DF: Robinson - Wigan (3 starts) MF: Cameron - QPR (3 starts) MF: Green - Greuther Furth (3 starts) MF: Lankford - St. Pauli (1 start) FW: Jann George - Jahn Regensburg (3 subs) FW: Novakovich - Reading (1 sub) Holmes (Derby County) is the notable injury absence in that second list. Also Carter-Vickers just joined Stoke on loan. There are others that may break into their teams' lineups later in the season, but for now, based on where the USMNT tends to draw from, I believe that covers most of the players that will be getting significant attention in these threads.
A dark horse may be Khiry Shelton ( ex NYCFC, ex SKC ) who has already made a German Cup sub for newly promoted Paderborn and was on the bench for their first BuLi match. Paderborn is expected to go right back down to BL2 but Khiry may get rotational minutes in the BuLi this season!
fair nor not the shelton hype train will probably never gain steam...too many people have actually seen him play.
Could add USA born FW Jordan Siebatcheu who came on as a sub for Rennes in their 2 wins in their first 2 Ligue 1 games, including today's win over PSG.
There are also the guys in the Danish league--Sabbi, Amon (if he's still alive), Cappis, Samuel, Cajuste (maybe). I'm not sure if that's a high enough level to put them in contention for call ups to the senior team, but they'd at least potentially be contenders for u-23 call-ups.
I was also thinking about Pierie and Sandler. For all of our understandable anxiety about having some of our young dual nats poached, we also have some interesting targets to potentially poach ourselves.
Julian Green is currently the 2. Bundesliga's 2nd-highest-rated AM by SofaScored (3rd-highest by WhoScored). Two goals, 100% successful dribbles (5/5), 89% passing, 77% ground duels won, 50% aerial duels won. The 24-year-old CAM is pushing for consideration within the US pool.— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) August 18, 2019
That's good news, but it's 3 games in a 2nd tier, so slow your roll. It will require a much more expansive sample than that to get excited again and be parlayed into national team re-integration. That's even true for his position where we have a dearth of talent right now. It's also not like he's had a shortage of opportunities already, and broken up into multiple segments of his career.
It's encouraging that Green had 2 key passes from the run of play. Attacking passing has been a weak point for him. Khiry Shelton has been too injury prone.
Kicker has him as #45 in the league (tied with many others) with a 2,83 median score, after three games. See page 3: https://www.kicker.de/2-bundesliga/topspieler/2019-20
No surprise Matt Miazga was on the Championship Team of the Week for nearly every publication. He won 17 aerials and is credited with 13 clearances. Monster game in the 3-0 win over Cardiff https://t.co/LQrTI88vw1— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) August 19, 2019
There's no reason not to include Green. He consistently performs well with the USMNT and he is making things happen while regularly playing 90 minutes in a league not dissimilar from MLS.
I know folks are Destaholics right now, but we did have another US-eligible player (and former USYNTer) play this weekend at fullback in the eredivise. 1163185275503337478 is not a valid tweet id
We've been following Payne for so long, and he was out injured also for so long, that it's strange to find out he's still only 23.
Whoscored has Green in the best XI for this season. Every time you mention Kicker ratings, I wait for you to explain the toxic anti players who chose against Germany bias of the fan-boys who do Kicker subjective ratings.
