That's some great camera work to show him seeing the loose ball before pouncing. I have been waiting for the great American goal poacher. Ruud Van Sargent would be ok by me.
Srsly, really happy for sarg to bag that one. Green and Firth are in free fall after a promising playoff push , disappointing to see that but their chances st even playoffs are getting slim
I agree I think that was a pretty marginal red but it was a huge mistake on his play on the ball. And the Wolves goal in the first half was because once again Yedlin let his man get free. He was much too far inside. I used to like him a lot. Quickly losing patience with his miscues over and over.
He’s somehow gotten sloppier despite being managed by a legitimately great coach and one that pays attention to detail. It’s weird. I think Lascelles would have gotten over but the giveaway was so brainless he almost deserved the red for that alone
That giveaway screamed, "I'm in over my head!". Benitez has to be kicking himself for thinking he could possibly get away with Yedlin at RCB.
The referee was Mike Dean, so if you even make a yellow card challenge, you might get yourself sent off.
Green's team got hammered, but he had nice stat line of 93% passing, 2 key passes, 3 dribbles, 2 tackles, and 0 disposessions for a WS of 7.2. The coach subbed him and two others around minute 60. They gave up 3 more goals.

Mike Dean is generous with both red and yellow cards, leading other Prem refs in both categories this year so far. But no indication he gives a relatively larger number of reds to yellows. In fact, if you look at last years stats you'll see your contention is out of bounds.
Horvath's resurgence is very nice to see. For awhile it looked like Steffen wasn't going to have any competition.

He's one of those players that when they finally get healthy and in form they get injured again. Some players have no luck.
McKennie didn't get off the bench today, but Wright came in at halftime and had a good performance. He nearly had the winner, but it was called offside as he was half a step offside. He also contributed to Schalke's goal as he challenged for a header that came to Caliguri who hit a shot from the top of the box into the net. His holdup play and combination play was a big help to Schalke in that second half. He earned them a few corners, and had one shot, which was blocked out for a corner. He was much better than the Hoffenheim game a couple of weeks ago.
I've stopped thinking about it in terms of luck. Some athletes just seem to have a physical make up more prone to injury. This seems to hold true across all sports. I now think of it in similar terms to any other physical characteristic such as reaction time, endurance, or flexibility. Some just don't have the requisite physical body type to resist various injuries.
Body types could make injury easier but some players give everything and that gets them injured while others take a bit off and stay healthy.
I thought Sargent put in a hard-working shift off the bench today for Werder Bremen. He didn’t get that many minutes, but he won back the ball a couple of times. I thought he should’ve drawn a foul with a nice turn after being put in a bad spot by a teammate, but the ref thought otherwise. He also picked up a yellow for a tactical foul late in the game. He was their second sub and got into the game before Pizarro when they needed a goal, so maybe he’s earning more minutes.
