Friedel was at Blackburn for 8 seasons, Earnie Stewart at Willem II for 6 and NAC for 7 (and yes I had to look those up)
Job was with Ajax for over a decade. He trialed with them at 14 and left high school to sign an amateur contract with them in 1994, He spent pretty much his whole soccer-playing years with Ajax, only finally leaving after injuries had pretty much finished his ability to play top-flight soccer in 2005. He had very much a similar relationship with Ajax as Stevie did with Hannover.
I think I saw him at Dallas Cup playing for Ajax. Back in those days the gap between top players from Europe and the US was astronomical. To think a US team outplayed everyone this year is remarkable.
I was excluding keepers from my original question but if we are adding them, we need to mention Howard at Everton for 10 straight seasons.
If anyone hasn't yet heard, Pulisic drew the game-winning penalty in the German cup final (and would likely have scored if not brought down in the box by the keeper.)
DWill had a monster match at CM in a 3-4-1-2 in today's L0-0 in the Championship Playoff match. Danny had a Whoscored 8.8 with 8 tackles, 3 dribbles, and a 87% passing. He also made his penalty. Devastated he came so close to EPL promotion but the very conservative play that the Reading manager deployed should be questioned.
Good news is his contract is up. He will prob try to latch onto one of the Championship sides going up or a bottom of the table EPL side.
Here are the midfielders: Bradley, Bedoya, Acosta, and McCarty are the CMs that DWill competed with for a slot. Likely came down to DWill v Dax and Arena went with the career MLS guy who is having a very good year.
Picture adjusted for height. In reality, Nagbe, Pulisic & Dax are half a head shorter than Mike & JJ. And Toucan should tower over Acosta & Paul.
Well, OK. Just got the call up for Norway. Life long dream of playing for 🇳🇴! Thanks to all that had helped me along the way.— Bjørn Maars Johnsen (@BjornMaars) May 30, 2017
Makes me wonder whether Bruce has signaled who may be considered for the Gold Cup and Johnsen wasnt...
I agree, he needs a change of scenery While the transfer is not complete Hertha sporting director Michael Preetz confirms #usmnt CB John Brooks will be on his way out https://t.co/TjAbLDtrVO— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) May 30, 2017 Edit: more Rumor detail The news of John Brooks to Wolfsburg is now all over the German press. Awaiting official confirmation but reported fee is €17 million #USMNT https://t.co/aohWYfYdLT— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) May 30, 2017
Deal complete - Brooks has transferred to Wolfsburg: https://www.vfl-wolfsburg.de/info/aktuelles/detailseite/artikel/brooks-kommt-46356.html In terms of club ambition, I would rate the move a mild positive; in terms of nightlife, I would rate the move a negative.
A lateral move in my book. The diff is the pay, probably. Hertha and Wolfsburg are bouncing teams, but die alte Dame has much more history behind it than the Volkswagen Frankenstein.
WhoScored added coverage for the 2. BL, Sweden, and Norway. That's a little bump for our perspective on YA's because we have some players in those leagues typically, but few people end up watching their games. There aren't that many interesting ratings from last/this season. Mix is posting a 7.16 in the Allsven so far. That's a good starter for the league. Hines-Ike (Allsven) and Wooten (2. BL) are rated as solid starters at 6.9. That's not quite usnt standard, but Hines-Ike has upside as a not overly experienced and versatile 22 year old cb. On the disappointing side, Gall has a quite poor rating as a starter of 6.3. Many were surprised by that signing when it happened. I wish they would start covering select national teams so there was some objective backing to subjective opinions on that front. There would probably be more interest in that than the Tippeligaen.
Perry Kitchen to Randers in Denmark. Step up from the SPL, but he still isn't going to be making what he was reportedly offered by DC before he chose to move across the pond. http://www.randersfc.dk/randers-fc-henter-amerikansk-midtbaneslider/
Wright had four goals and assist, McKennie an assist, both were excellent, in Schalke's 9-1 win. Would be nice to see two Americans face CP in the Ruhr-Derby.
