The GK Giulia Cascapera (Slammers FC ECNL), after taking part in a U-16 camp a few months ago, has been selected in the U-17 Italian NT that will play the group stage for the Euro qualifications against Portugal, Georgia and Finland from 26th to 31th of October.
Lol, only me and Gricio61 (or any other Italian-speaker from this board) can understand that, but her name is super-funny! I hope it will have nothing to do with the way she dives to save goals... '-_-
I have found this video on youtube, looks like she's a pretty good keeper for her age... (please note the big variety of the soccer pitches in USA...) By the way, according to the specialized websites her family name is native from Velletri, south of Roma...
Judging from this video, it looks like she's particularly good at coming off of her goal and stealing the ball from the feet of opponent forwards. It is difficult to judge other goalkeeping skills, as diving or positioning or reflexes. Seems good for her age, but I can't say from this video if she's really a quite complete GK.
The FS1 broadcast of the US-SUI match revealed a Yank we weren't aware of on the Swiss squad: NOELLE MARITZ Defender Born in California, moved to Switzerland at age 10 Has about 34 caps, 1 international goal Plays professionally for Wolfsburg and has a WCL title. FIFA profile: http://www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/players/player=357344/index.html Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noëlle_Maritz Wolfsburg profile: https://www.vfl-wolfsburg.de/info/frauen/kader/abwehr/noelle-maritz.html
Well, Steffi Jones won the Euro Cup with 1. FFC Frankfurt in 2002 and 2006 (lost in the 2004 finals). Gina Lewandowski and Ali Krieger won with the same club in 2008. In the WCL era, it looks like Lewandowski lost in the finals in 2012, Rapinoe lost in the 2013 finals and then Klingenberg, Engen & Press lost in the 2014 finals. Going through Wikipedia, I spotted 2 other Yanks on losing teams: Venus James lost the Euro Cup finals in 2004 with Djurdarden (UCLA bio: http://www.uclabruins.com/news/2013/4/17/208179137.aspx) Stacey Peterson lost in the 2003 Euro Cup finals with Fortuna Hjoring I assume this is her: http://iuhoosiers.com/roster.aspx?path=&rp_id=5238

Amanda DaCosta started the 2nd leg of Portugal's UEFA playoff with Romania. She played the 1st half and Portugal moved to the next round on away goals after a 1-1 AET draw. She'll get the chance to make the squad for next year's Euros.
I missed the release of the full official rosters for the U20 WWC in Papua New Guinea. Here are the Yanks (including one on Venezuela I wasn't aware of): Canada: Hannah Taylor Venezuela: Mariana Speckmaier (school says she is a Miami native) Mexico: Emily ALVARADO Vanessa FLORES Monica FLORES Kiana PALACIOS Eva GONZALEZ Maria SANCHEZ Esthefanny BARRERAS Annia MEJIA Jacqueline CROWTHER There are an additional 15 women enrolled at US universities who aren't dual nationals. http://resources.fifa.com/mm/docume.../84/86/81/fu20wwc_2016_squadlists_neutral.pdf
Looks like she didn't make the final squad for some reason. ETA: In the Notre Dame thread, it looks like she decided to stay in South Bend.
In U20 WWC, Mexico beat S. Korea 2-0 on goals by 2 Yanks: Started: E. ALVARADO (GK) V. FLORES M. FLORES K. PALACIOS E. GONZALEZ (Exited 88') M. SANCHEZ J. CROWTHER (Exited 84') Bench: E. BARRERAS (GK) A. MEJIA (Entered 88') Goals: J. CROWTHER 56' K. PALACIOS 89'
Mariana Speckmaier got off to a good start with Venezuela's only goal in a 3-1 loss to Germany. http://www.fifa.com/u20womensworldcup/matches/round=275987/match=300353171/index.html#statistics http://www.fifa.com/u20womensworldc...speckmaier-s-strike-for-the-ages-2850659.html Six months ago, 18-year-old Mariana Speckmaier's sights were set on carving out a professional football career in the United States while studying a degree in business administration and finance. But one fine day the phone rang at her house in Florida and the call changed her plans, at least for a while. Speckmaier decided to delay starting at college in order to embark on an exciting new adventure that took her out of her comfort zone. Having today entered the history books as the first player to score for Venezuela at a FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, it is not premature to say that the gamble paid off. The voice on the other end of the line half a year ago belonged to Jose Catoya, the coach of the Venezuelan U-20 women's national team, who wanted a word with Mariana's father. "My sister Paulina had played for them in the 2014 South American U-20 Women's Championship, so the coach knew about me through her. He followed my games in the USA and then he called my dad to ask if I wanted to play. I said yes!" the youngster told FIFA.com after her side were beaten 3-1 by Germany in their Papua New Guinea 2016 opener. Born and raised in Florida, but eligible to represent Venezuela through her father, her adaptation to the La Vinotinto set-up was not seamless: "I found it tough to integrate into a team in which the players had been playing together for a long time. But fortunately I've got to know them better over the last six months and now I can say that I feel at ease."
A bit on Paulina Speckmaier: http://www.fgcuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2899 competed in Brazil in 2012 Under-20 South American World Cup Qualifier as part of Venezuelan National team http://asunsports.org//sports/wsoc/2013-14/releases/201406174an6wx FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU women's soccer player Paulina Speckmaier has been selected to join the Venezuela U-20 National Team at the South American Championship being held in Montevideo, Republic of Uruguay Jan. 13-31. The event doubles as a qualifier for the 2014 U-20 World Cup that will be held in Canada.
