W-League Team of the Week: https://www.w-league.com.au/news/westfield-w-league-team-week-round-2 Sam Staab (Western Sydney Wanderers) Sam Staab is quickly becoming one of the best defenders in the competition on the back of consecutive stellar performances to start the 2019/20 Westfield W-League campaign. Wanderers ‘keeper Abby Smith could have spent most of Western Sydney’s game against the Jets sat down with a cup of tea, largely due to the totally dominant display of Staab in the centre of defence. Staab made 68 passes at 88.2% accuracy, won eight out of 12 duels and made six clearances in another totally composed and commanding performance. Mallory Weber (Adelaide United) The American winger was like lightning in a bottle every time Adelaide shifted the ball out left in their 1-0 loss against Sydney FC. A constant danger to the Champions’ defence, the Westfield W-League newcomer ripped off six attempts on goal and created four chances for her teammates. While many players faded in the second half, Weber came to life as the match wore on. She also did a superb job off the ball, winning a joint-high eight duels for the Reds. Lynn Williams (Western Sydney Wanderers) American striker Lynn Williams arrived at Wanderland during the week and showed just what she’ll bring to Western Sydney this season in an impressive debut against Newcastle Jets. Williams did not score, besides a goal chalked offside in the first half, but she supplied Wanderers a genuine target up front and dovetailed excellently with compatriot Kristen Hamilton. She displayed supreme hold-up play, skill in close quarters and fearsome speed in her debut Westfield W-League showing in Red and Black.

https://equalizersoccer.com/2019/11/26/westfield-w-league-review-week-2-new-look-wanderers-rolling/ Import of the Week: Lynn Williams, Western Sydney Wanderers In her first game in the W-League, Lynn Williams (on loan from the North Carolina Courage) was active in attack throughout the match to power the Wanderers to a 1-0 win over the Newcastle Jets. It was their second win of the season in front of 2,992 fans at their Bankwest Stadium, which was also the first W-League/A-League doubleheader of the season. Williams was crucially robbed of the opening goal on the half-hour mark when she was ruled offside after scoring from close range, although two Jets field players were clearly keeping her onside. Western Sydney Wanderers have won their first two games of the season, which they have never done in seven previous seasons. The club looks completely overhauled after last season’s bottom-of-the-table finish with just 4 points, and if they keep up this pace, they should qualify for the postseason for the first time in club history.

Interview with Hailai Arghandiwal: https://www.dw.com/en/afghanistan-midfielder-hailai-arghandiwal-when-you-liberate-half-the-population-you-liberate-everyone/a-51516531 In the summer of 2018, Arghandiwal's own story changed as she moved abroad and joined Fiorentina in Serie A. Hampered by the fact she wasn't cleared to play for half the season, coaching she felt was lacking tactically, and a tough battle just to make it work, Arghandiwal's time in Italy helped her grow personally more than professionally. Arghandiwal has a strong support system in the form of her friends and family, but the loneliness was hard to escape. A season later, unhappy at her stagnating situation in Italy, Arghandiwal chose Germany over France because she had family here. She joined Duisburg in the Bundesliga after proving herself at a trial.
