Lacrosse is the one true American sport. All the others are fake news and try to pass off as being American.
Yeah, I had that thought a few times and then I started to play. It's definitely a sport. It's f-ing hard too.
I don't disagree that golf is not hard. Chess and croquet are also hard. They're just not sports in the way that soccer, basketball, distance running, mountain biking, etc. are sports.
It's different but definitely athletic. Its really impossible to strike with any consistency and length if you aren't strong and flexible. If you're walking a course as well it adds a different element as well. It's not soccer, and I still play that as well, but its most certainly not like a board game. I also thing understanding how to shape a soccer ball has been extremely helpful in learning how to shape a golf ball and understanding the physics of spin, where it helps and doesn't.
Is it though? https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/n-16.7/page-1.html https://filacrosse.com/fil/origin-history/ It's likely the only true North American Sport, though it's Origins can be traced back to areas that are part of Canada today.
I previously mentioned doing a roundtable with some of our @PhilaUnion fans who are active on Twittter. If you’d like to come down to the Union office and participate in an open discussion about our club please sign up here. Space is limited to 20. Thx. https://t.co/wtjCMmomaL— Tim McDermott (@TimMcDermott6) April 10, 2019 I'm going to this... I'll take copious notes and report back.
Scientists have finally isolated and photographed what the hopes of a Philadelphia Union fan look like: ...ok, I'll leave now.
Anybody watching the FIFA eWorld Cup? doolsta was down 3-0 to the Mexicans and he came back to tie 3-3. eSuck it, El Tri.
My recap on twitter, you can click into the link and view the full thread: High level recap of the Twitter Round table for people:- 3+ hours long- Roughly 20 fans in the room, about 8 Union employees— Mike (@Thomas19064) April 17, 2019
This is the one that got me: They're already having a hard time getting people to drive into Chester for the top-level Pro Team. What did they honestly expect for Steel? I've seen it mentioned before, and it applies to me, as well. As someone living in MontCo they lost Steel revenue by giving me my tickets for free, and they lost a butt in a seat, because I'm not driving down to Chester for lower tier play.
I don't think they were expecting Bethlehem level numbers, but I think they sort of thought giving tickets to STHs for free would result in a slightly higher turn out. I mentioned I didn't think that STH perk was publicized that well, and the promotions guy was got a bit defensive.... I think it just comes down to, the Steel are a bonus, it's nice to have but very few people are going to prioritize making the games. To me it is very much a last minute decision on going down, and things like weather/are the union playing/etc make things a lot more volatile.
Looking at the current attendance numbers posted on the USL subreddit for this season, 10 of the bottom 13 teams are the MLS-owned teams. The attendance numbers aren't THAT much worse than independent teams, but they are still on the bottom of the list. Maybe fans understand that wins/losses don't matter for these developmental teams and this is just what affiliated minor league soccer looks like?
