Oh, so the team is continuing with the pretend rivalry. We have never been, nor are we currently, anything more than a passing thought to RBNY and their fans...despite the LARP-ing some Union fans seem to enjoy.
Oh shit. I forgot about Nakazawa. He was one of the earliest targets of my hate for being a bad player.
There's an intern somewhere playing season after season in the lowest playable leagues looking for the next Jay Simpson.
"Hey mom, I got a job for the summer!" "That's great Johnny! Who will you be working for?" "That soccer team down in Chester. The best part is that I get to hang out in their basement all day and play video games!" "They're paying you to play video games all day in their basement? I was gonna start charging you rent for doing that in our basement!" "Well, they're not exactly paying me money, but I get to hang out in this dude Jay's basement and play video games all day!"
I side with @jaykoz3 and @drewuke...apart from their fans, the organization as a whole is a lot less hate-able than they were back in 2010 and 2011. Don't get me wrong, I love a good Marsch temper tantrum as much as the next person but Robles, Parker, Adams, and BWP are difficult to hate. Miazga, Agudelo, Henry, and Marquez were easy.
Don't forget Team Exec Eric Stover (now with the loathsome Cosmos). Petke and Backe made it easy to dislike them too. Though they still have Aurelien Collin............
Marsch is fantastic. Everything he does is calculated. He knows he is the villain, he embraces it, and he plays it up
I don’t know why but the first thing that occurred to me when I saw “Hey Jason, come and sing it with us!” were all of Embiid’s Twitter antics trying to get a date with Rihanna. All kidding aside, now that the song has some cultural capital, they’re clearly desperate to get credit for it.
I'm waiting for Garber to stamp it out because of the bad word and then enjoying the irony when they meekly comply.
It’s even cringier when you consider the SoBs made the same type of video months ago and he just ignored it and went to a parade in Delco instead. Now it’s team sanctioned and even more pathetic. Everyone is so busy trying to manufacture relevance and piggybacking off of any loosely related success instead of just doing their own thing and earning it legitimately.
Maybe they should focus on things like this: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018/05/27/armchair-analyst-phillys-process-quakes-sink-more-week-13 Doyle actually has a decent take on the Union. The marketing department should be focusing on what Trusty, McKenzie, and Rosenberry are doing instead of trying to piggyback on another missed opportunity.
Yeah, I agree... get away from the play off of the Sixers process though... it’s just such a little brother thing to do and it’s couldnt be more different.
That's a Doyle thing, he's just being a dick. I agree though. The Union need to embrace who they are instead of clutching and grabbing at the coattails of the other Philly Teams. How about playing this up more? https://www.brotherlygame.com/2018/...-usmnt-a-surreal-experience-for-john-mccarthy That's a local guy who's worked his ass off for everything, and earned his spot on an MLS team. It's a cool story, and it barely got mentioned. There are two 19 year old kids from the area starting at central defense for the Union............. How about the team's FO push these stories and stop begging Kelce to come to a game (hint: he very likely just doesn't want to come to a soccer game and I don't have a problem with that). Honestly, if they are going to panhandle to other Philly Pro Sports players, they should stick to the Flyers and Sixers. At least Giroux, & Embid like soccer and have been to Union games before.
Even if they are no longer paying Henry-like salaries for DP's, they still have a lot more resources to throw at all kinds of things than the Union do. I'll gladly give credit to the Union for placing an emphasis on developing its academy, but RBNY is probably the one club who has done it even better than the Union so far.
They're good and have produced results, but I'm going off a recent publication I read not long ago that ranked the academies 1) RBNY, 2) Union, 3) RSL. Link
Just got the "Please come out to our matches" email through a Wells Fargo partner offer. 20% off Union tickets for the following dates: Atlanta 7/7 Eintracht Friendly 7/14 Orlando (Open Cup) 7/18
20% off already cheap tickets for the Open Cup game? That's rather desperate. 8+ years of sub-mediocre product will do that to you though.
