“There is going to be an evolution to our team, and I think you can see that with some of the players that we’re now scouting and we’re bringing in to this team,” Olsen says. “The league is moving very quickly, and the way we were doing things for a while is not cutting it. That’s the reality. For four or five years, you could punch above your weight and you could grind out more results than you can now. There’s just too much quality. So we now have to evolve with the league. We’re under no illusions with that. There’s just too much money coming in and there’s too much quality with the opponents." Ben Olsen: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018/04/27/dc-uniteds-ben-olsen-1-1-job-you-live-week-week Even DC knows that you need to spend in order to keep up....
It's been missing at least since the Columbus game. Was looking up at it today...you can see tattered edges of what's left of the fabric on the support rods. I realize it's not something they keep in stock at the average roofing supply company...but it's been over a month.
Waiting for the league to issue RRAM (roofing repair allocation money) so they can pay for it. Though they might trade some of it to the Red Bulls for DAM (Drumline allocation money) so they can upgrade and get Bimbo sponsored skins.
Contractor: This is the standard of roof fabric. It's about $10 million to cover all the fans. You'll also save about $40 mil by not installing an actual roof. Sugarman: But do you have anything cheaper? Contractor: Cheaper than that!? Well...This polyester blend but no one uses that. It's got like a 10 year life. Sugarman: Sounds good. And only cover the middle sections. It's not like I'll be sitting in the River End.
But they always have at least one player wearing a jersey with the number 10 on it! Not good enough for your?
Posting this with no commentary other than something I observed on the way into the office this morning.
Funniest part is that this could all be considered a successful campaign for republic, which will in turn lead to the union asking for more money for next year
Pretty sure using your cell phone while driving your car is minor traffic violation in Pennsylvania. The safe thing would have been to pull over, climb in the back, and take a selfie. When else will you ever have an opportunity like that?
When does the Bimbo jersey sponsorship deal expire again? And would a trash hauler be considered an upgrade? Discuss...
https://www.structurflex.com/projects/talen-energy-stadium/ "A key challenge for this project was cost. Project directors recognized that a lightweight tensile membrane roofing system would meet functional and aesthetic requirements for much less than a traditional roofing system." https://www.structurflex.com/materials/ptfe-fiberglass/ "Durability benefits of PTFE coated fiberglass: Lifespan exceeding 30 years Hope Jay kept the receipt Tensile strength of 500,000 PSI (more than 10 times the tensile strength of steel) And yet the steel structure seems to be doing just fine. Resists the build-up of environmental pollution But not the build-up of pollution on the field Does not become brittle over time Except when it does.
What... they covered the stands with basically a giant fiberglass blanket? Isn't that stuff nasty on your lungs when it starts to come apart?
I'll take that bet. Jay has historically been a big proponent of 5 year plans. One ground rule: A giant blue plastic tarp and bungee cords from Home Depot doesn't count as "fixed".
I guess the roof is just following the same progression trajectory as the numbers of patrons that sit under them. But, only one of them seems to be garnering some attention for repair.
I think it's up this year... my money is on Bimbo renewing... the hysteria will be hilarious. Assume MLS stays at 6 playoff spots.... Toronto NYCFC Red Bulls Atlanta Going to more often than not take up 4 of the 6 spots... then the rest of the conference continues to grow: DCU has indicated they are going to start spending more. Chicago has indicated they are going to continue to spend more. Orlando has ambition and is willing to spend when necessary. Miami which will be a DP laden team, maybe an LAFC of the East is on the horizon. Honestly New England could turn on the spending at any time.... not sure if it's likely but it's possible. Saputo MAY actually figure out his spending one of these days, the guy is ambitious, but not executing... (similar to Toronto of old) Nashville and Cincy on the horizon... still question marks... who knows.. Columbus probably on the outs to Austin.... Then there is the Union... basically no room... I have a hard time imagining a viable path to the 6 spot. We are going to be squeezed out. Where is the room in the future? Someone convince me there is room.
Just think - Curtin will be approaching his 10th season by the the time all those teams join. And if that’s not dark enough for you... we’ll be well into Trump’s second term.
If I'm reading this correctly, it looks like it runs through the end of 2019. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2014...tend-deal-jersey-front-sponsor-bimbo-bakeries
I still don't fully get the sponsorship. I understand that their USA HQ is in the region, but I still have absolutely no stores around me that sell any bread that says "Bimbo" on it. Sure, they sell tons of their products that go by various other brand names that they own, but I'm not sure the common folks know who Bimbo even is. I know some of you have seen it, but I also live in the Philly region and haven't ever seen it anywhere.
You can buy Bimbo bread in most Walmarts. I know this thanks to those old blue coupons the used to give out before games. I had about a 3-year constant supply of free bread from going to Union games. Shame they stopped.
