COLUMBUS, OH, May 7, 2016 - Growing out of the festering unrest from a bitter home defeat at MLS Cup and lackluster play to begin the 2016 season, the team, nay, all of Crew nation has fallen into disarray (and not the fun YNA kind of Disarray) following the club's latest 4-4 loss. In a classic Crew move, the team expertly squandered away a commanding 4-1 lead, collapsing in spectacular fashion as former Crew/current hairstyle legend Dominic Oduro snatched the tying goal from the fading embers of the game. Oh, and a couple professional players fought over a ball during the game. Didier Drogba was also there. A postgame shitstorm followed. To quote embedded BS correspondent and longtime sheep czar Cleazer, "So we've got supporters group vs supporters group, DP vs DP, and now we're hitting the trifecta with a T.S. Eliot feud breaking out." Not content with the chaos, team owner Anthony Precourt waded into the fracas and called out the supporters because why not. And Greggggggg was all like, "We'll have to gather more data before compiling these spreadsheets." It's truly a dark day in Crewville. Battle lines are being drawn. Pleas to Lord Guillermo, our Father in Buenos Aires, have gone unanswered. According to all legitimate internet accounts, the entire league is now faced with the cataclysmic reality of World War Crew. Have mercy on our souls.
Per the terms of the CBA, I'm only obligated to offer up to seven choices in any poll. Take it up with the Posters' Union.
I would be less inclined to side with Pipa on this if Kei hadn't gone Chernobyl to the press afterwards. It could have been his first professional hat-trick, and those are kind of special (for arbitrary reasons). So I totally get his disappointment/anger. But damn, he totally went about it the wrong way. Especially after his primadonna pre-season antics.
Kei says pipa is selfish when kei's only argument for why he should have taken the PK was he was on a hat trick (which seems to be a selfish motive, no? teams don't get hat tricks, individual players do.) Then Kei plays the remainder of the game selfishly in further pursuit of the had trick, missing a clear chance in the closing minutes because he ran into traffic instead of sliding a through-ball in. I hate that this is happening, cause I like Kei. But Pipa is having a good season where he is linking with others, and Kei is less consistant in form than he was last year and seems to have grown an ego. And there's a weird dynamic to the whole thing because Pipa's lack of English proficiency (coupled with his professionalism) means that he won't be talking to the press to defend himself against Kei's nonsense.
Kei needs to be disciplined. Regardless of whether you think he should have taken the PK (and there is plenty of precedence for a player on a hat trick not getting to take a PK), there is ZERO excuse for doing what Kei did after the game. You can't publicly denounce a teammate like Kei did. Doesn't matter if his frustrations are true. Zero excuse.
