Well, the World Cup campaign starts in less than a week. Things are looking rather bleak... but surely we should have enough to bring 3 points home from Astana? Brutal trip, though, and looking at their record, they don't concede a lot of goals at home. Could be a bit of a slog, like the first match in Armenia at the start of Euro 2012 qualifying. Worse news, Darron Gibson has decided that he doesn't want to be invovled after being left on the bench in Euro 2012. Morale must be rock-bottom in that squad. A solid win is really needed. David Meyler called up in his place.
Squad: Westwood, Forde, Randolph, Wilson, O’Shea, St Ledger, O’Dea, Ward, Kelly, McShane, Meyler, McCarthy, Whelan, Coleman, O’Brien, McGeady, Keogh, McClean, Keane, Doyle, Long, Cox, Walters
Starting XI announced. Don't think too many of us would agree with this... Westwood, O'Shea, St. Ledger, O'Dea, Ward, McGeady, Whelan, McCarthy, Cok, Walters, Keane. Will be interesting to see if it's a flat 4-4-2, a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. My money is on flat 4-4-2.
2 late goals put Ireland through, 2-1. Didn't watch but saw the line score. Edit - apparently they struggled through much of the game. Lucky for the W http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/international/2012/0907/336745-sdsad/
James McClean took to twitter right after the match..he had this to say.. http://www.balls.ie/2012/09/07/jame...irelands-performance-in-one-incredible-tweet/
He has a point. Playing two strikers ahead of him in HIS position was stupid. Trap out Yeah I said it won't happen tho no money to pay him off
