Closing in on the all-time scoring record: After Wondo's record 8 straight 10-goal seasons, all-time mark in sight
After nuclear annihilation roaches and wondo will be the only life forms left standing. He just won't die.
Less than a year before the world cup and Wondo is still relevant in the discussion, thats pretty amazing.
And Wondo's in again: Arena calls 26 players for World Cup qualifiers to #Get3 vs. Panama and Trinidad & Tobago
A few months back, in this thread, I said I'd die of a brain aneurysm if Wondo got picked for Russia 2018. In order to prolong my lifespan, I've been repeatedly telling myself that Wondo will be on the World Cup roster as a form of exposure therapy, in order to inure myself to the inevitable when he's announced on the roster in 2018. I've now resigned myself to the fact that he'll be there - somehow, even if it means us carrying five forwards, it'll happen (though most likely scenario is an injury to Demps/Wood/Altidore/Morris). Great locker room guy - that's more important than actually being useful on the field in the world's biggest tournament, right? That said, if Wondolowski actually makes it onto the field, I will be dangerously at risk for an apoplectic seizure. And if he somehow is named to the starting lineup, blood will erupt from my ears.
How is Wondo a great locker room guy? Just curious I remember a case of euro 2012. Roberto Soldaldo wasn't called-up because of (some rumors) that he would cause a stink if he was riding the bench. Not sure if true but was interesting. It makes sense for some guys if they are good for the atmosphere. I really don't see us bringing 5 strikers. We might even play with 1 up top and flood the midfield for a game or 2.
I don't know - I'm just grasping for reasons why Wondo keeps getting called up. I'm starting to fear that Arena truly believes Wondo is the 5th-best forward in the US pool...
Strange right? is he like our 10th best forward? A lot of others probably might be better for CONCACAF opponents but his stats are quite respectable. Might have been nice to call-up Weston McKennie.
As a coach, I can relate to the value of naming Wondo to a 26 player roster. The dude brings intensity to every single practice, every single scrimmage and every single drill. If you aren’t completely focused he’ll embarrass you. He sharpens everyone around him and that’s not easy to find. You look at a guy like Freddy Adu who was notorious for lax training habits and you wonder what could have been if he had Wondo’s discipline. Also, Wondo hasn’t received a single cap under Arena. He’s only been named to the 18 like twice, right? He’s not playing. As an antidotal story, during the run up to World Cup 2014, Klinnsman had the USMNT scrimmage against local college team Stanford. It was later reported that Jordan Morris torched Clarance Goodson repeatedly in that scrimmage and Goodson was cut from the team the following day. I relate this story because I believe if Wondo is beating you in practice, you are not going to be playing in the upcoming games.
That's cool I didn't know that. I'm guessing that's how Morris was able to get senior team call ups while he was still in college.
