I think the confidence comes from looking at their performance in their last three major world competitions -- the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and the 2007 World Cup. Although Nigeria have always found themselves with a difficult draw, they have proved to be tough opponents and competed with everybody.

The problem I see is Nigeria haven't built on the success of their teams from recent competitions. Their coach seems to have ripped the squad apart, discarding talented players just coming into their prime for a few aging talents and a host of raw youth. Nigeria's success at the U20 level shows that they are capable of rising again (under different leadership, anyway), but for the time being they are a diminished side.

Really looking forward to the game Germany - Norway. Wish they would broadcast it over here, or atleast on Eurosport.
It will be a great test for both Germany and Norway.

Canada defeats North Korea June 14 according to CSA twitter 2-0. Second goal by Filigno, no mention of who scored the first.

According to the Colombian football federation website, the match was drawn 1-1, and decided on penalties in favor of Colombia by 3-1.

Great result for Colombia. That and Chile's friendly results last year suggests CONMEBOL has improved.

Yes, it's a good result. Denmark are a good team. I don't know if it means much for the WWC, because Denmark aren't preparing for it.
But I am confident Colombia won't be a second Argentina. :)

What Chile results do you mean? The last friendlies against European teams were really bad. 0:2 Romania, 0:0 Portugal, 1:2 Wales, 1:1 Romania again. And these are low level UEFA teams.

It's a while ago but they had a home tournament in January 2010. 1-1 Colombia, 1-1 Japan, 0-0 Argentina, 1-2 Denmark (managed to injure the Danish striker too :p )

Not perfect but it's not 0-11.

    Three matches today:

    Slovakia 2:2 Nigeria

Nigeria really with disappointing preparation matches. They played against Czech Rep (ranked 25th), Austria (40th) and Slovakia (42nd) and only managed one close win against Czech Republic. Currently I don't see how they get even a single point against Germany, Canda and France.

    Sweden 2:0 Mexico

Mexico have solid results. I don't see them challenging Japan and England though.

    Germany 3:0 Norway

    4 Preparation matches, 4 victories, 15:0 goals
Everything seems to work out for Germany. The only problem is which players should start? Currently it looks like the players in the second half are much better than the players in the first half.

Thanks - that's correct. Unfortunately, some news sources don't distinguish between goals scored in post-match penalty shootouts and goals scored in the match.

The other friendly match to be played today (Brazil v Argentina) was cancelled, as Argentina were unable to fly due to the Chilean volcano. So, Brazil will instead play Pernambuco's state team.

That 1-0 win over Columbia is the first time NZ has recorded back-to-back victories over non-Oceania opposition since the Women's World Invitational Tournament in Taiwan way back in October 1981.

And should we beat or draw with Denmark in our final Matchworld Women's Cup fixture, it will be just the second trophy we've won outside the confines of Oceania, the only such triumph to date being the 1975 Asian Women's Cup.

    C'MON THE FERNS!! :))

Hat trick for Delie, after a brace in the first Belgium match. So five goals in all for Delie in the two matches, despite playing just 103 minutes.

Unlike most of the team last night she was very accurate in her shooting during the game otherwise it would have been 13-0.

Shooting accuracy, apparently we missed a lot. I guess conversion rate was like 2 out of 15 on Wednesday and last night 7 out of 18. So a bit more clinical in fornt of the goal. Also a change in personnel with Delie starting the game up front and Thiney in midfield .

shlj say it all....but i also think one of the main reasons of our victory is than the belgium were already in vacation like the italians against germany.......but now it's clear for everybody than delie should start as the lone striker in our 4-2-3-1 formation.
